My local SHARE office might close down .....
The pastor at the church where our SHARE orders are distributed .... isn't that fond of the program. And this month, we had a very low turnout and low order amount. (More info about SHARE at www.sharecolorado.com)
While I helped with today's distribution, the pastor said, several times, "Not that many people are using the program. It might be time to quit it."
One woman offered to publicize the program more. But you could tell the pastor wasn't buying it.
Kinda bummed.

The SHARE program in our area shut down a few years ago. The coordinator was dealing with a very ill child, and orders dropped at the location because of expansion. There was never a shortage of volunteers, and sadly, the biggest losers were the elderly residents of a nearby high rise.
I really miss it, and still check from time to time to see if another location has opened up nearby. I always bought two regular packages and at least one of the "specials" when they had them. The program really helped to stretch our food dollars.
I hope he reconsiders.

I looked at the site, the plan and the recipes. This is wonderful for a family who needs help. When I was a child we did need help, but I am positive that my mother would not have done this. Leezza I think you may be right.

This isn't a giveaway program, it is more like a co-op. For each package, you pay $16 (they do accept food stamps) and must do 2 hours of volunteering somewhere and bring a little signed slip as proof.
The program was introduced in my area by the Catholic Church. The last time I checked the listings, there were only a few host sites affiliated with a Catholic Church, so maybe they withdrew their support.
It is sad to see such a good program end.

I hope he reconsiders. It would be a shame to do away with such a worth while program.

Project Angel Food (I THINK that's the name of it) has programs expanding all over now. We have one here locally, but it's a bit far for me to go. Same thing - co-op purchasing and you pay a fixed amount in advance and then get your box of goodies at the pick-up point. Sponsored by churches.

Ours isn't at a Catholic church -- it's a Protestant denomination. And no Angel Ministries within 100 miles.
