Angry got some interstering information in my electic bill..

I got inside my electic bill a little piece of paper and I was reading it and it really surprised me here is what it says "in the summer the consumption of electicity drives our production cost up to meet the increaded electricity demand, to encouge conservation and wise use of elecricity the price per kilowatt-hour rises as a customer uses more enegry. during the winter months, when the demand for electricity is generally lower and our cost production is reduced, the price per kilowatt-hour decreases as a customer uses more of our product. this structure encouages customer to use enegy more eficiently when it is most in demand"--this sounds like that in the winter the more electricity you use in the winter the lower your bill should be. does this make sense to anyone, maybe that is why when i was trying to save on my elctric bill this winter it would not go down any. makes me feel like i am doing this what does others think about this....

I think they're trying to tell you they're are purposely JACKING UP the rates b/c people waste electricty. This way people wont leave their a/c's on FULL blast all day, have the ceiling fans, lights going when not needed.

    Example:

In winter you just crank your furnace - one big user of energy.
Summer you turn EVERYTHING on PLUS the A/C. So multiple users of energy PLUS the biggest one - the a/c.

I mean when you cook in winter, you welcome the heat (somewhat) from your stove. And you know through the day, the sun will come up and naturally heat your house etc...you just bundle up more, enjoy warmth when you cook/bake and turn down the t'stat b/c its going to be too hot.

In summer, you already have the a/c going, then you cook, thus heating the air you just cooled and to lessen the effect in the kitchen, you turn on ceiling fan/exhaust fan and open windows, thus letting out and wasting the air you just paid to cool. Then on top of that you further crank the a/c all the more b/c the one room is hot from cooking.

We must subconciously use up more energy in summer then you do in the winter I guess. (some of us, not all!)

Hope that made some sense...I can see why they include that little paper now, to try to distract you from the fact that they are raising their prices.

As for you trying to save energy and lower your bill in the winter, keep up your efforts. Its better for the earth in the longrun and eventually it will lower your bill! Keep your hopes up gf!

I think i will call them and see about during the summer if there is a better time to use dryer stove ect, in the winter the only gas I have is the heater, rest of my house is electric, I thought about this summer finding and buying elelctric heaters and stay away from using the furnace this winter and with that note i just might find it cheaper in the long run to use electric heaters
instead of the gas furance I will see if i can all them monday and find out extaly what that letter ment......

I think what they're trying to tell you is that you pay more per Kilowatt house (KWH) in the summer than you do in the winter. I know different electric companies offer different pricing plans.

This is part of the reason I always gage our usage by KWH - not price. We've had rate hikes, and voluntarily agreed to pay a little extra to go for wind/hydro - so sometimes our conservation goes up and our rates still go up.

Our electric company publishes the monthly usage for the last 12 months on the side of the bill. Our best month ever was using 495 KWH, our worst month ever was 997 KWH. Our average month is around 650 KWH. I'm hoping to get it down more to the 500 KWH mark.

My electric company has always done this. It makes sense to me. I live in Texas, and the summer months are HOT. Many people positively blast their AC on the arctic setting. We've had rolling blackouts in the past due to the drain on the power. Personally, I think it's wise for the companies to up the prices at this time of year. For some people, it's the only thing that will work to make them conserve energy a bit. While I don't enjoy paying more at this time of year, I understand and accept it.
