Heading for surgery
hello, all, I am heading for carpel tunnel surgery on June 14th for my right wrist and elbow and then on June 27th for my left hand and elbow. I am going to stay frugal but with kids dh, and roommate doing alot of the cooking I worry about blowing my grocery budget which is $150-$200 a week for 8 people this includes food, pet food, non-food (cleaning, tp, paper towels ect), I have been making alot from scratch, but now worry about the fact that they can't so this is my plan, I have a bread maker Iam going to use to make rolls, make the dough and then they can put in the pans to rise and bake, also going to make up some bisuctes to freeze I am also planning easy meals that they can make I have stocked up on things so that they can just throw the meal togeather,.Also planning on having a helper so that I can guide them through the process and they can make things, plus I am going to bend the rules and let them use the dry sometimes for clothes, sheets and bedding will still be hung on the line, luckly I have an EF dryer so that should help. I have a list of things that I am going to make and freeze before my surgery but it seems that I am not going to get all of them done. but I hope I can teach the kids how to make some basic things. for breakfast and lunch. I am also making up some mixes to help them. I have also gotten a kids cookbook which they are going to make some things from. the only problem is that alot of the recipes call for premade things so going to make up some of those so we don't have to buy it, going to make some fridge dough to help also. does any one have any other ideas that I can do so that my whole frugal budget does not get blown....thanks p.s. would anyone be will to send prayers or happy thoughts my way, i would appricate it....

Wishing you successful surgery & a speedy, free from pain recovery Pam.
As far as the food thing it will all work out and I'm hoping your kids have some fun with it too. You rest and listen to the doc and don't try to do too much!~*Darlene*~

Sometimes extenuating circumstances override our frugal habits. You have a great plan in place, have done a lot ahead of time but don't sweat the small stuff that you won't be able to do before and while you're laid up. You'll have time to read some more great frugal books and then you'll be rippin' and rarin' to go when the time comes (and the dr. releases you ofcourse
)!

Prayers headed your way
. It sounds like overall you have a good plan. As PrairieRose said, don't sweat the small stuff. It would be much better if you spend a little more money than usual and got well, then for you to overdo it after the surgery and take longer to heal. Do the kids help you cook now? If not, getting one of them in the kitchen with you each time you prepare the make-ahead dishes will help you get more done and teach them valuable skills. Good luck and take care of yourself.

Good luck with the surgery and speedy recovery. Sounds like youve done some good planning, try not to stress too much over it if they go over a bit.
If youre to keep on a strict food budget could you set aside a set amount of cash for those purchases (no check, debit card usages for foods, etc)? Once its gone the shopping is done.
Otherwise I would just try not to worry about it and have a stress free recovery.

Thank you for all your great post, I have decided that I am just going to not sweat the small stuff, if the kids use the dryer to do laundry then i am not going to worry about it, if I can get them to hang up the laundry then great if not no worries, plus if i have to buy a few things that I would normaly make from scratch it is better then stressing my self out and taking longer to heal which would just make things worse so better to spend for the shorter time period then spend more over a longer time so I am going to not worry about all the frugal details and just take it one day at a time and when i am healed then get back on track after that... thanks for all the help and suppport....

That's the spirit! And who knows, the family will probably surprise you! IMO, you are more prepared than most people would be in the same situation. The most important thing is to get better after your surgery. Good Luck!!

Looks like you have a great plan. I'm sure everything will work out fine with the rest of the clan pitching in. Take time to heal and relax. Will be saying a prayer for you and sending a hug your way.
