    Default Stop Credit Card offers!

I finally decided to do something about all those junk CC offers I receive on a daily basis. I went to www.optoutprescreen.com and filled out the simple form to prevent agencies from looking at my credit. I am sure it has to be bad for your credit too because every time someone asks for a credit report it lowers your score, or so I heard. I don't need any credit cards, so there is no need to receive the offers.

I don't know why it has taken me so long to finally say enough is enough!

    Default Food for thought?

    Mom23boys - quick question:

If you're not asking them to look into your credit rating how can it be held against you? Its not like you've chosen to apply for a new credit card or a bank loan etc giving them necessity/access to look it up.

I think its just a scam that they take 'x' amount of names from a list of a certain level of income/credit available and then try to 'offer' you a new one - something that you dont already have - and say that you are preapproved. When you do take the bait THATS when they look at your credit rating (b/c you've asked/given permission to do so) and they can yay or nay you're application. No matter how preapproved are, the fine print always lets them 'opt out' of preapproving you - but after they've dinged you and lowered your credit rating.

Isnt your credit history/rating kind of like your credit card? You must give permission for others to view/access it or the information related to it? If not then why do they offer a 'privacy policy' and if they check your rating/history w/o you knowing, do they purposely choose to violate that policy??

    Just my thoughts on this.

And great job for opting out of junk mail!! Can only recycle so much of it right?

We did this a few months ago and the credit card offers have slowed to a trickle. There were days when I would get 5 and 6 credit card offers in the mail, multiple times a week.

    This really does work.

Funny enough, when I moved to Germany, all those offers stopped coming in the mail......... I did fill out a change of address form..... I guess the post office just feels it is bulk junk mail! (which hardly EVER gets forwarded)

I am not sure if it does effect it before you say you want the card or not. I am not real clear on that. I just didn't want anyone looking at my credit without my permission, so I am not taking any chances. You are probably correct in the fact that they wait until you agree to the the terms and then they check to make sure you are "worthy".

I hope for all of our sakes.....all of us that gets those stupid offers, that they don't look at it until we agree to the terms or I will have a really low credit score with as much junk mail offers I receive. There may be some days that I don't even get any mail now that I opted out. LOL!

Thanks for the link. I opted all of us out too. Will this also stop all of those stupid mortgage companies that keep offering us refi's when they don't even refi mobiles/modulars?

I am not sure Carolyn. It is suppose to stop all credit offers, so maybe so.

Since I replied last night I have been thinking about this alot LOL. I think thats how it works b/c (1) they cant peek at your credit w/o you knowing or approving and then (2) EVERYONE would have low credit rating/scores and then they couldnt prey on people.

But the less junk mail the better, Im sure I have a few mins to flip through my mail - junk and all - daily but I KNOW Id rather be doing something else with that time lost

Good job though - I like my empty mailbox!

I got a credit report a few months ago and there were 3 major credit card companies on there that I had not applied with and I was getting those offers like crazy so yes, some do check your credit report first. I was so mad!

I tried this back when Michelle first posted it, and I'm still getting offers...wayyyy too many. DH and I both have small home businesses, and we're getting a lot of offers because of those. I am going to research how to stop these from coming, and I'm going to fill out the paperwork again. I hate getting my mail these days
