    Default got a fantastic bargin

I believe in planning early LOL,

My daughter is having her first communion next year - as Ireland is predominantly Catholic it is a HUGE occasion here. To kit your kids out properly cost really big money. This year the dresses were in the region of 150-600 Euro {180-720 dollara approx}.

Anyway I was out today with my friend and we saw that one of the shops had a sale on - we each picked up a dress for 25 Euro, I just bought a bigger size which unless ciara has a massive growth spurt will definatly fit her. I was having nightmares about the cost and now i have the dress already - i'm so relieved. it is going to be a very expensive time as the tradition is that you take family friend and godparents out for a meal afterwards as well. My friend was so happy as she has twins so its going to be doubly expensive.

Great find! It's so nice when big expenses like that can be taken care of at bargain prices!

Good for you! Before Kid-Scribbles' First Communion, I'd been watching garage sales. Picked up 2 dresses for about $10 apiece. Unfortunately, she was too skinny ... and DH wouldn't go for the garage-sale dresses.

So, we spent an afternoon shopping ... and plunked down $100 for the dress.

Well, I kept all the dresses, and this year, when Fish-Kid had First Eucharist, she was able to wear her sister's old dress.

After Communion, I donated them all to the thrift store. Yes, even the $100 dress. I didn't need them, and I think they're going to the ophanage in Mexico that the store supports, because I haven't seen them on the floor.

I am glad you got a good price and I hope to they fit! It is very important to think ahead!

I am thankful that our Church doesn't have such expensive traditions!
For Confirmation our church provides the special gowns and afterwards the church ladies provide sandwiches, cakes etc....and we all have a party....

It was very good thinking to buy it ahead of time! I know what you mean about a big expense! My son made his communion this year and with the suit and taking everyone out to eat afterwards it cost us around $700!

I love when youcan find bargains like this! I did the same for my dd for my sister's wedding. My mom and I found a communion dress and my cousin who is an AWESOME sewer did the alterations for free. The flower girl dress ended up costing me only 13 dollars! The regular price of the dress was over 100. Actually her shoes cost me the most!

I definately plan on doing this again next year in hopes of finding a communion dress for the following year!

Great find!!! When my oldest made his first communion we got a second hand suit and dress shirt, already had the tie for $10.00, then got to use it for youngest when he made his. Got the shoes for $2.00, that was 7 years ago. Our church is over 200 yrs old and traditions run deep too. but Ireland goes all out with the exspensive dresses. WhenI was small we all lineed up, all in white, little gloves and veils, ususally about 100 of us , it was so sweet, and the little boys were so handsome!!! Now adays its hard to get the churches to even force the parents to get the kids to put dress pants on, never mind the dress shirt. I seen 3 kids with rock n roll tshirts and denims, i was disgusted. But what can u do.
