Question What is your biggest financial concern - short term?

What is your biggest short term (let's say within a year) financial concern?
What worries you about your current financial situation?

I am worried about getting the full ef saved and also getting the cash to go to KY for Christmas as we promised. Also I'm detesting my PT job and debattting if there is any way humanly possible to make up the $ we would lose if I quit.

Surviving the summer. DH is working part time until teaching job starts in august. His student loan pmts. start in July and our car insurance comes due in July also! That's a lot of extra $$ in one month.

My biggest financial concern right now is our cc debt. We have, yet again, charged up our ccs, and need to get them paid off asap. Our bills have increased by about 300.00 per month due to our new additions to our house. So, I'm really stressed right now about it all.

We're managing the usual stuff pretty good at this point-- but all the extra medical bills are rolling in now, and it's hard to manage the extra $$ for those. I used to work overtime to cover this sort of thing. . . but now it's my health that the issue, it's not possible.

We also need to get our passports ($50 each) in case something happens to Doug while he's overseas. . . . Doug is getting married next week. . . . We're going to take a short (2-3 day) trip to Chicago. . . .

Getting this small loan paid off ASAP and starting to save for a bigger emergency fund. Along with this my concern is dh's discontent with his job he's had for the past 8 years. They are starting to really take advantage of him and a person can only take so much. Then a year from now I'll worry that I won't have enough saved to fully help dd with her college choice.

Phew. Man. I might need to chill.

    Bring on them baby steps...

Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
    Step 5: grown child
    Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
    Step 7: ahhhh....

My immediate concern is what we're doing after the baby comes (in eight weeks). I work PT, only 15 hours a week. I really don't want to leave the baby with a sitter.... not to mention that we'd have to FIND a sitter first... yet my little paychecks are enough to make a big difference in our monthly budget, and with DH potentially changing jobs soon, we can't afford for me to quit. Oh, and factor in that paying a sitter wipes out part of the income I make- it's probably not worth me continuing to work. Yet, I don't want to quit- I always have the option of more hours, which I will want when the kids are alittle older. Ugh. I dunno. We've got to work out a plan somehow.

The extra medical bills. Just got a call this morning to make payment arrangements. The good thing is the hospital took the other two accounts and combined them with the new bill and made it a 12 month plan and it ended up being cheaper in payments. So now I can the extra to get rid of the other two which are almost paid off. But we still have dh's bill for his back that is coming in. I paid off two medical last week. Its a never ending cycle with medical.
Our emergency fund is where it should be. All other bills are good. Still trying to figure out ways to cut.

My biggest concern is getting our IRS debt paid down. Everytime I seem to get a pile together to hit it with I end up neededing it somewhere eles. Like the transmission repiar on DH truck last month. (sigh) We had to have the work done as DH need truck out of town for a job. The month before DS needed a bail out with his bills. Always seems to be something.

No medical insurance. Having no medical insurance, or life insurance, scares me. We used to have both provided by DH's former employer. When he lost that job (in May 2004) after working there five years, it was quite a shock. He has been working a much lower paying job ever since, and going to school full-time.

We have no emergency fund. We live paycheck to paycheck, and I hate it. We lost our home to foreclosure last year. DH has been looking for a better paying job, he has a certificate in Digital Media now, but the job outlook is grim. Most jobs in that field are in larger metro areas. We could not afford a move, if he did find a job out of state.

I want so much to go to the dentist and the eye doctor. I have not been able to do either since we have been without insurance. My vision is changing, I probably need bifocals, but don't know when I will ever get them.

I spent around $100 for dd's birthday gifts and party last weekend. Now I am regreting spending the money, because our electric and gas bills were due yesterday, and payday is still a week away.

I didn't think I would be living this way in my mid-forties. We don't have any debt, we did manage to pay off our car loan earlier this year. We just do not earn enough. Few employers around here want to pay more than $8.00 an hour, and you just can not live on that. Our rent is $550 a month. We do not spend money carelessly. We never eat out, and most of our clothing comes from thrift shops. I grocery shop very carefully, saving 50% or more by combining sales and coupons.

Oh well, pity party over now.

My current concern is funding DS#1's college. He will start in the fall. We do have some of the money because he was awarded 2 scholarships, but they aren't enough. I am sure we will figure something out, but I will worry about it until I do.
