Need mold advice!!!
I'm not even sure how long ago the flooding rains were in New England - like a month maybe?? But our cellar has been mostly wet ever since. Every time we're close to drying out, it pours again. Like today another 2 to 5 inches expected.
And tonight I found mold. We'd had a few hot days and some mugginess.
Almost all wood surfaces have mold on them. Including all the old kitchen cabinets DH was trying to use as part of his workshop. And his tools are starting to rust. He's out now buying metal shelves to put all this stuff on so we can toss all the moldy wood including wooden pallets. I'm sure by morning we'll have another inch of water in the cellar.
I know nothing about mold. Any advice??

Our basement almost always has some kind of water going thru. Good dehumidifier & washing things down with a bleach solution should be a big help.
Bleach is one of molds worst friends. I do come from the thinking that much of the hupla over mold is just that.~*Darlene*~

I have to agree with Darlene. We get water in our basement from time to time and we use a dehumidifier and I bleach the vinyl floor every so often.

The first thing I would do is figure out a way to make your basement waterproof. Around here there are many wet basements, but with some extensive work, they can be water free.
We paid about $4,000 a few years ago to get our basement waterproofed from the outside, which was a lot, but we haven't had any water problems yet.

Bleach works wonders but prevention is the best method. There are alot of products out on the market that work well. Also good air circulation!

No advice, but I just wanted to offer a hug from another MA resident who knows how bad the flooding was!
