    Default Almost bounced a check

I can't believe I did this. I wrote a deposit into my check register twice! I really should have questioned why we seemed to be doing so well so close to the end of the month.

I'm glad I caught it when I did. I mailed in the house payment the same day I got my bank statement. When I tried to balance it that evening I was almost $400 off from what the bank said I had (in their favor of course). There was not enough left to cover my house payment. So the next day I went and closed an account I had before we moved, $287, and put this into the new checking account. Thank goodness I had this, but now I have nothing to fall back on and only a little over $100 for the next two weeks.

I still just can't believe I did this! I have never, ever bounced a check, thank goodness I looked at the statement that evening. I knew it would be hard on our own but sometimes it seems like I'm just not going to be able to make it.

The way this month has gone I think it must be a signal that I need to start over with the finances and rethink my budget.

It's great that you caught your mistake in time and that you had the extra to put in the account.

    Yikes! This is so stressful!

I have bounced checks a couple of times recently -- it costs a fortune, and the stress of it is horrible. Glad you caught your mistake!

Good job catching it! I also bounced one this month and am still kicking myself DAILY, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I forgot to write a purchase in the check register and was checking my account online and found it the day it happened, even though I transferred money right away they still charged me the $32.00, made me MAD!

You'll make it, we all have those short times (I'm in one right now, $50.00 to last me until next Friday but a full freezer and feed bin here!

The beauty of your title is the word [I]almost.[I] You're very fortunate to have caught the mistake and to have had the funds to cover it.

I've only bounced a check once in my life. It was the week of my wedding. I had too much stress going on to bother with balancing the checkbook. Oops. I had overdraft protection linked to my savings account, so it didn't cause any problems other than a stupid overdraft fee.

Best of luck to you in working with your budget. I'm sure you'll be okay!

Once, when I was married, my stupid exhusband had spent every PENNY we had. I had already gone to the grocery store, and all the bills were paid, so I was not going to die. Then my lovely then 3 year old, woke up in the middle of the night, opened the fridge and freezer doors, and did not close them. I woke up to a very smelly, soggy mess. Not to mention, how was I supposed to feed her? I HAD to bounce a check to get food for the house, and I decided that if I HAD to pay that fee, I wasnt eating hot dogs and mac and cheese. (Besides, I had to replace EVERYTHING. MAYO, Mustard, I mean, all that stuff) I didnt go crazy, but $32 for $15 worth of food didnt seem to make sense to me.

Thank goodness you caught it, and had something to fall back on.

Thank you for the responses. One of the reasons I checked the statement so quickly was because I've just started using a debit card for some purchases. Everyone says they are so much easier, but I'm a bit paranoid that I will forget to write something down in the register so wanted to make sure all my purchases were recorded.
