I'm so bummed
And I'm sure it's temporary.
But we were evacuated for the flood this last week. We just got back in yesterday. We are pretty high up so no water got in the house. But because they cut the electricity days ago we lost everything in the fridge and deep freeze. All of it. And I had a lot.
Time to start over.

Hugs to you, I know we'd be in big trouble if we lost all our food here.
I'm glad your house wasn't damaged though, what a relief that must be! Those rains were really bad and devastating for so many in such a large area.

I'm sorry, floods really stink. You have no control and are left to just pick up the pieces & move on. Glad your home is ok.

Oh, Mojjo, I am so sorry to hear about that -- I know it would really hurt us if we loss our food in the freezer. Perhaps there will be some kind of money coming in to help out with the situation, or some food donations of some sort.
Thank heavens your home is ok, though, and you and your family are all safe, that is the biggie.
Best of luck in your situation.
Big Hugs!

Can you claim the loss on your insurance? (m)
perhaps you could check with your house/contents insurance company. They might be able to help. I'm glad your house is ok though.

I was also going to recommend checking with your insurance company. A contractor once unplugged my parents huge chest freezer (even though there was an unused plug RIGHT THERE) and never plugged it back in. Guess who found the rotten stinking mess two weeks later? (My parents were at their summer place.) It was horrendous to clean out, but I do believe the insurance company covered the loss, which was pretty substantial. (They had a half side of beef in there, among many, many other things.)
I'm so sorry you got evacuated- it sure isn't any fun, but I am glad you are okay and you didn't have water in your home. I assume that nothing is still frozen? The last time we were evacuated, we shut our own power off, and we were only without it for about 6 hours, so everything was still rock solid when we got back in. We got very lucky in this flood and for that I am thankful.
Sorry you lost everything in you freezer.

I would be upset over the food lose also, but on the bright side you were lucky that your house was dry! I too would call up your homeowner's insurance co and question them.
Best of luck to you!

I'm so sorry you were evacuated and lost so much food. Atleast you are armed with the knowledge of how to once again fill it frugally. Sending good thoughts your way to help make you feel better. I'm so glad your house wasn't damaged. Hugs.

Sorry this happened to you. At least it was something out of your control. My sisters dh unpluged her chest freezer and forgot to plug it back in. Three days later they discovered everything thawed. She figures she lost somewhere around $400.

I'm so sorry you lost all that food. My freezer went out, all by itself last winter, lost everything. The bright side is, food is replaceable. I don't have a new freezer yet, but am saving for one. Glad you are all safe and your home is ok too.
