Angry We were doing so well!!

Ughhh....DH and I both work for the state. And normally that's nice because it is stable with predictable increases in pay. But unfortunately we work for the state of New Jersey right now.

    They need to settle soon!!!!!

As it is...DH and I are going to have to make due on 1/2 our pay. And I just about wiped out our savings recovering from the flood last weekend. But I'll try to do it.

Good News: we have a 1/2 way decent pantry; SS is visiting his mom so one less mouth; DH and I are pretty adament about Weight Watchers so we are eating less; we have no electric bill this month; daycare is a short month; our cable bill is 1/2 because of a credit

I've just finished Mary Hunt so that we're dedicated to contributing to the Contingency and Freedom funds. Good idea or should I skip a month?

I hear ya, Mojjo! I live in NJ. The situation is out of control. I don't know what Corzine is thinking. We already have the highest taxes and standard of living in the US; now he wants to raise sales taxes to 7%? Methinks the man has lost his mind!

That's really a hard one. I know when we had our income slashed in a half a few years ago we managed to go ahead and pay on the snowball debt plan we were on and were sooooo glad we did. I guess you have to see if you can make it by carrying on as planned or not.

In Kansas our sales taxes are over 7% (in Wichita, it is 7.3%), and we pay tax on EVERYTHING, food, shipping and handling charges, salon services like haircuts, museum admission, etc. It makes it really hard on the working poor (like us!).

I don't even care about the sales tax...just friggin end this already.

$275 over the course of a year isn't going to hit me that hard...not as hard as no work this week.

I was paying 9 percent sales tax in the last state that I lived in. 9 percent. Outrageous.

For your sake, and for the sake of the other state employees, I hope they get this worked out NOW. It's a shame that politics can wreak such havoc in the lives of the regular people who need their jobs and pay.

I guess I should feel fortunate right now. Texas doesn't have a state tax. Our sales tax is pretty high (I think it's 8% in my area right now), but that's not a big deal. And food (at least the necessary kind like milk and bread) isn't taxed at all. Cost of living here isn't too bad compared to the rest of the country. Of course, we can't work out an equitable school financing plan.

I have been watching this on the news. I thought the casinos brought money in for the state? I heard them say something on the news about maybe closing the beaches too.

I hope the issue is resolved soon so you are able to return to work.

In our area of Texas, the sales tax is 8.25%. AND I think it is funny how Rick Perry finally signed a school reform budget with the upcoming election. Most of the area school employees are really disappointed with him right now.

Mom23Boys, where are you? I'm in a suburb of Dallas. Our sales tax may be 8.25%, too. To be honest, I haven't paid that much attention to what it is now.

Yeah, Perry hasn't exactly been the greatest governor. And I voted for him! Really, though, I don't know that there is any school finance reform plan that would make everyone happy. I just know that my property taxes are way too high, and I used to teach in one of the "robbed" districts. That district was one that filed suit against the state (and failed unfortunately).

We pay 8.25% sales tax here in Los Angeles. Ane we DON'T have an overall high standard of living locally, IMHO.

I just heard on the news that it was resolved, so take a deep breathe and sigh with relief! I know there will still be things to work out with the missing pay but it'll soon all work out!

Hey, you could have our governer who is locally known as "Bob the knob" lol, here in Ohio between Coingate and all the other blunders we just shake our heads in wonder.
