Why, oh why does everything come due at once?!?!
So here I thought I was finally getting ahead -- got my second mortgage, but suddenly they chose the order in which things had to be paid off and I ended up owing THEM money. So now I am precisely $560 short of what I need to cover my expenses this month. My mortgage payment bounced because the finance company withdrew the payment or would not give me the second mortgage. AARRGGHH!!!
What to do? I have nothing to sell. My car is leased. My house is now mortgaged to the wazoo. I am taking every second of overtime offered at work, but it will still not offset what has occurred. Part of my expenses this month are to go and pick up my kids in the states, which is completely non-negotiable -- has to be done. My parents chipped in some money for it, I certainly cannot ask them for more. I have tapped every source I had to get my legal bill paid and get this second mortgage, cause they make you jump through hoops paying things off. In the long run I am better off, in the short run, I am about to lose my home phone and I will be paying 2 mortgage payments at once next month.
So my head is pounding, my stomach is churning and that light I thought I saw at the end of the tunnel must have been a wicked gleam in some evil imp's red bloodshot eye!
Advice welcome, cause I have been racking my brains trying to figure out a solution and come up with zip, zero, NADA!

The only thing which I can think of is to maybe call the places you owe money to and ask if you can skip paying the principle on your payments for this month and just pay the interest? That would free you up for this month with a little extra.....not much but every little bit would help.
Have you called your phone company? They should let you put a little on it for now and then you can pay off the balance next month or the month after that. Same with hydro, we have been there in the past and they worked pretty good with us.
For the short term this could work.
Let us know how you do and what you come up with.

Great idea, Bee. I will try that with the interest. Unfortunately the phone things IS the payment arrangement, so that will not happen -- it is way past due and I promised to pay a certain amount.
I just paid off my Mastercard in full. I do NOT want another balance on that but may have not option. I am going to call Ford Credit and try to defer this month's car payment too -- that will help as well.
Been industrious this morning. Rounded up all my change and counted it -- nearly $50 in there, so that is money I did not really know I had. Groceries this week can be extremely minimal cause the kids are not here. They'd balk at daily pb and j but I can handle it. I am going to make a menu from my pantry next.
Thanks, you ladies are always there for me. Even when I make dumb money mistakes, you never tell me I'm a bonehead!

You know what they say.... two steps forward, one step back. Just a bump in the road. You're doing so well, remember that!
Bring on them baby steps...
Step 1: done
Step 2: waiting on amount, hubby had followup colonoscopy, I had visit to ER with followup procedure
Step 3: to follow, won't know aim until things settle
Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
Step 5: grown child
Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
Step 7: ahhhh....

I agree, you are doing fantastic. You are working towards a goal and sometimes things don't always go smoothly, but keep focused on your long term goal! You can do it!

Ok, don't hate me for the suggestion, but what about a 1 time cash advance from one of your PIF credit cards?
Yes, the interest will be bad. But, what's worse? late mortgage, no phone? or taking a hit on the interest.
Then, once you're out of the woods for this month, throw all your extra resources to paying that bad boy off.
OH, you can also Balance Trasfer the high interest cash advance to a lower interest card.Last edited by Jenna; 07-09-2006 at 12:33 PM.

I know, Jenna, that is exactly what I am thinking -- I can scrape up just enough, cause I got my limit lowered (I know, I am weird). I absolutely HATE doing it, but it looks like the only solution. I am scrabbling around today trying to see what I can pull together and I will just have to top up the rest that way.

It will take discipline not to use the cards again - so they don't go back up while you're paying off the second mortgage.
The trick is to do this once, and PIF as soon as possible.

I once had some money troubles due to my daughter needing an unexpected surgery. I called Ford Credit and they let me pay interest only for three months which really helped. They were also extremely nice. I called my mortgage company and explained the problem to them and they let me skip a payment and pay $100 extra per month until it was caught up.
Hope things are better soon.

My friend recently called up her mortgage co and they let her skip a payment and add it onto the end of the loan with interest, dont know if the company you have would do that, just a suggestion.....

Awww, Chrysler Girl.... I'm so sorry this happened. I know you had a great plan in place. Just goes to show that life often has plans for us that deviate from our own. *sigh*
I really don't have any advice, as I've never been through this. I just wanted to let you know that I'm praying for you. Hope you don't mind.
