Default Need help with my dilemma

As most of you know, I am planning on quitting my job at a local grocery because of the horrible hours, and no pay increases, work weekends and holidays, with a lot of responsiblities. While I have been on vacation this week. a customer called me at home and wondered if I would be interested in another job. It pays $1.25 more per hour, with increases every 6 months, paid holidays off, weekends off, and the hours are 7 am to 11am M-F. It is 13 miles one way, (we live in the country) and paid vacations. I can work longer hours if I would choose, but I wouldn't because of my 13 year old. It is a job filling vending machines at our local industrial park, they also provide the uniforms. I am considering taking this job for the extra income and great hours. Opinions please, what do you think? I think it would be a good part time job for women raising families still. I figure if it doesn't work out I can alsways quit.

I would definitely consider it especially since you like the hours, as well as a higher hourly wage! It wouldnt hurt to give it a try!

I'd go for it especially if you "know" her. I wouldn't commit if it was one of those you buy the machine things.

Sounds like a great opportunity to me, Buckeye. It will not take away much from family time, will give you more income than you have now, and it sounds like there are some other great perks! And like you said, if you hate it you can always quit.

Let us know what you decide.

Thanks for all of the replies, I am definitely going to give it a try. It is a very reputable company, the same company goes to my DH employment area also. He knows very well of them. The worst that could happen, is that I will hate it. The hours do work perfect for my schedule. I will keep you all up to date once I start.

we spend too many hours of our lives working to be stuck in jobs we hate. you'd probably be happier anywhere else and a change from what you are doing now would be good for you. if you're happy in your job (or unhappy) it spills into other areas of your life. unhappy - you have less energy for the things you do enjoy...happy - you have more energy for the things you enjoy. just a few observation i've made through job changes. some decisions you make are more complicated than the bottom line, ie. $$$. it's good if you're in a rut to shake things up a bit, but sometimes it's scary to think about leaving the comfortable, safe, predictable jobs to try something else. i bet if you take this job you'll wonder why you waited so long. maybe things work out the way they are suppose to and it was this exact opportunity you needed to nug you a different direction. i think it's great that you'd be able to be home when school gets out and that if you needed a little extra money, you could work a few extra hours. i know what your present job is like...first hand. it's not fun working when your family is at home.:surprise:

i think you need a push...

i really, really, wish you some space in your life for good things to happen. let us know what you decide and how it goes.

Thanks for the encouragement JenK. I went on my interview, a few days back, it was 1 and half hours long. They did a hair sample for the drug test. My hours are a little different but still good, M-W-F 7 am to 12:30 and T-TH 7 am to 1pm.I will get 8 paid holidays, plus, the companies I will be in charge of shut down for a week at Christmas and one other time, I can choose to take the shut down w/o the $ or they will place somewhere else for the week if I want the $, this also happens one other time in the year. It is okay to be an hour late during bad snow weather, I get $3.00 to spend for lunch per day.I can also adjust my hours next summer to go in a bit earlier if I want to be home earlier, There is also advancements within the company to better positions and more $ of course, but if I like the job this will be way down the road because I don't want to be away from home much. These hours work perfectly for me right now, and I REALLY hopw it will work out. I am suppose to start July 24th. I will keep you updated.
