Our fridge is dead:(
I guess when it rains it pours
Our fridge is four years old or at least we've only had it for four years. Thirty bucks for the guy to tell me it will never work again and the repair is more than I could buy another fridge for. Whoever sold it to me (it was a scratch and dent) took off the serial number sticker. Of course I didn't think or know to look for that so we're SOL. We have a mini fridge so for now I think we're just going to downsize what we have in the fridge. Unfortunately we have a lot of big marinades, salsas, etc...not sure what we can do with those. I'd hate to throw them out but I don't have the $400 it's going to cost for a new fridge. The guy has a few he said to come up and look at and said he could take some of the parts off our current fridge so maybe bring down the price. What a pita though! On top of losing the jeep, dh losing his job and taking one that pays less, now this.
Yup, that smiley sums up how I feel right now.

I'm so sorry. You're right; when it rains, it pours.
Do you have any friends who would be willing to lend you some fridge space for a while? I know I'd make room for my friends in the same situation. I hope you can figure out a good solution quickly.

I am so sorry. Do you have a cooler? maybe you could ice some of your food until you have enough time to eat it up.

I'm sorry, hope you have some good family/neighbors that can find some room
in their fridge for your stuff for a bit. Hope too that things turn around for you soon. No fun when things hit the fan all at once.
Tv just died here, wonder what's next...
Hey, do you have a freecycle where you live? You just may luck out & find a half way decent fridge to tide you over. http://www.freecycle.org/~*Darlene*~

Ironically, I have tvs...two sitting in the closet we're not likely to use. Actually been meaning to list them on Craigslist or something. We do currently have stuff divided between our mini-fridge and our biggest cooler. Ice is really expensive here and we're over $7 just for two days so far. I responded to a few ads on CL about some listings. No matter how I look at it, I'll have to spend the money one way or another. I just keep seeing my EF dwindle and dwindle. I am so thankful I found this board and had the sense to put away as much as I did last April. Unfortunately, we're going to need that money in a month or two...hopefully not, but most likely. I'm going to walk down tomorrow and see what the serviceman has. It just needs to be functional...beyond that what does it matter anymore? Thanks to everyone for your kind words of support.

That is a bummer! I hope you are able to replace it cheaply.....preferrably free. Darlene mentioned Freecycle. If you belong, send a wanted email. Maybe someone has a working one sitting in their garage taking up space. If you don't belong, sign up. Something else you need just might be posted.

Freecycle is a great suggestion. Also keep in mind it is yard sale season! You never know what you might find for $50 this weekend. Honestly, this is the kind of thing emergency funds are for, as much as you hate to use it. I had to crack into some of my holdback credit too. I know it sucks, but better that then losing all your food or spending more on food because you cannot store it properly.
Best wishes, and I will sure be sending good thoughts and prayers your way.

Also look around for a consignment furniture place. I found one two years ago for $100. It was nearly new, the guy bought it just 4 months before and got transferred. It had a few scratches and dings, but didn't bother me in the least. There were a few older ones there for less, as well. Some people just buy new when theirs looks too dated and you may hit a gold mine.
Big (((hugs)))
Bring on them baby steps...
Step 1: done
Step 2: waiting on amount, hubby had followup colonoscopy, I had visit to ER with followup procedure
Step 3: to follow, won't know aim until things settle
Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
Step 5: grown child
Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
Step 7: ahhhh....

In my newspaper there are always fridges listed in the "$105 adn under" section. do you have that section in your newspaper? Maybe you can find one for $35 dollars or so.

Ok that is IT!!! MURPHY HAS TO LEAVE OHIO NOW! I'm so sorry this has happened to you, I though Murphy was to busy here busting up the brakes on my truck to go bother someone else dangit!
I agree with the others, garage sales, consignment shops, freecycle, you should be able to find a replacement for a really low price.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I've got a friend looking now as well so I'm sure something will come up. I don't know why I didn't think to check the paper. It's free here to post sale ads. Thank you
