It is very interesting to read about how other countries pinch pennies.

thanks Shell, that was very interesting.
When the dad was refused a glass of water at McDonald’s I was surprised especially since he was a paying customer for his burger. Although maybe that is why McDonald’s carry bottled water now........so they don't have to give it away.
The next time we hit McDonald’s here I am going to ask for a glass of water.....doubt if they have glasses and they will probably charge for the paper cup! I am curious to find out although I am not sure when I will be going there and if I do I will be ordering a salad with dressing on the side lol.
Thanks again

Ah I remember living in Japan. A big deal was going to Mcd's. And even at that time when we could get almost 400 yen to the dollar it cost a lot. Now its a lot worse. I met a lot of people there. They shopped everyday. The ones I knew did not have fridge's. Beef cost alot there, because they have to import most of it. The houses are not insulated. They can tear a house down in one day and build a new one the next, I lived a year on the economy. We had little space heated that went from room to room. They also pay for their children to go to school. I lived there 2 years.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

I've read a book on a Japanese housewife. Their marriage was more like a business deal. But one way she felt sorry for us, is that she had complete control of the money. She would never ask her husband for a new fridge, she would just get it. I really enjoyed the book.

Yup. It's the woman's responsibility to control the finances in many Asian countries. It's a lot of responsibility. And the men are called something like "outside people" cause they rarely get home before 9 or 10pm socializing after work is expected and part of the job culture. The women from Asia in this country love that their husbands have no one to go out with after work.

In the past, I never had a problem getting a glass of water from McDonald's at no charge. Maybe it's just Japan.
