Default New here with a major $ saving recipe

    Hi Friends!

I just joined and love this place already [it's so motivating! ]

Here's a recipe that I wanted to post and hope someone can use.

It's a meat substitute recipe and really is very good!

    Oatmeal Stuffing Burgers

1 Cup Oatmeal (I've used both but prefer instant)
1 Cup Stuffing (Dry mix with spices already in it) - generic is great!
1/2 of a diced onion (if ya want)
1/2 pkg. mushroom gravy (if ya want-sometimes I do, sometimes not)
1/4 cup of onion soup mix ... (again ... generic!)
    1 egg
    1/2 cup water

Mix together (well, you'll have to dice the onion to add it in there
but rest can just be mixed in as they are.)

Spray frying pan with non-stick spray and put on medium-low heat.
Then make patties and put in pan ... let brown and turn over and brown
    on other side.

Then when browned good on 2nd side ... put 1/2 cup water over top of
patties and cover and if you want, turn heat down some ... make sure
to keep watch so they don't burn.

Then after awhile, turn and add just a titch more water and lid back on and this will help to cook them (the steam.)

Then turn off. If you want ... when done, take out of pan and put on
    a plate to cool.

These are best when cooled down and then refrigerated for awhile (at
least 4-5 hours if not longer because by doing this, it somehow gives
    them their texture.

Make sure when refrigerating them that they are completly cooled and then are put in to a covered container.

Sometimes it takes a little playing around to get them just as you
like them but once you do -- they really are worth their weight in
gold as far as making your grocery money stretch!

Let me know if you like them (if not - that's okay too!) I'd still
like to know at least, if you gave them a try. :-)

    Love,

    Jennelle

I am too, Nada - for some silly reason, meat or just the thought of it gags me.

    Love,

    Jennelle

Once in a great while I can force myself to eat chicken but it's a very rare thing for sure.

There's actually a couple vegetarian/vegans on here. So you're in good company.

    Great Recipe, Jenelle!
thank you, we have 4 out of 5 vegetarian eaters here so
will surely want to try this. I have lbs of oats left from winter & the frozen veggie burgers get expensive.
    Welcome to the village!
