I'm amazed what people don't eat/ throw away! With our garden we eat and freeze all that we can. We eat beet green salads, use turnip and radish greens in salads, broccoli and cauliflower stems, freeze them for soup, etc.

    And dandelion greens are DELICIOUS!

And yep on the beef drippings, they go a LONG way.

Wouldn't newspaper print rub off and make the mattresses dirty?

kj, I agree, although I have in the past, been guilty of throwing some food away that I could have still used

Wendy, I suppose so, but you could also line the mattress and box springs underneath with an old sheet to combat the problem. Then, when the weather turns warm again you could just launder the sheet.

Actually there is one thing I have done to make my bed warmer that is not mentioned, but just as helpful. I have blanket fleece that I put over the sheet and lay on top of that. It really helps to hold the heat in.

Kabin I don't use it all either, and a lot of the leaves from broccoli etc go to the cows, I'm still trying to convince hubby to let me get a few pigs to eat the last bits and pieces, lol.

Pigs are SMART critters, much smarter than cows (won't even go there, lol, after owning them I now KNOW why we eat them!) And goats, lol, we have one that is pygmy/alpine cross named Jose (I call him Hosie), he came with the name.

Wow, great article! Oddly enough, I don't think any of us found the writer extreme at all! We should invite her to join Frugal Village, she'd feel right at home! LOL!!!

If you read the home page of this forum there's also another good link to another frugal web site called living on a dime. They have a lot of great info too. It's at the end of the article "Does Frugal Living Deprive Kids?".
