"When it's yellow, let it mellow......."
Remember the saying, "When it's yellow, let it mellow. When it's brown flush it down"? Anybody else here practice this big time water/money saving tip? We have a 5 month old kitten so our biggest challange is to always remember to close the lid so she's not jumpin in the water

And to keep things a bit cleaner when I do flush, I close the lid first.

We don't do that because even yellow makes for mommy having to clean the toilet more often!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, I don't. At night I do, but that is so the flushing will not wake up the whole house.

I try to, but find it's hard to train the kids on when to flush and not flush. One forgets to flush all the time (it seems like especially after poo) and the other is totally grossed out by it.
They are well-trained for sharing a flush - often all three of us will go at the same time.
If I go when they're not around or at night, I definitely let it mellow.
Our toilet is also a low-flow (only 1.6 gallons), but every little bit helps.

We have new low flow toilets here, so, no, don't do that here. Just keep thinking, what happens if you get sick during the night? So, often that is the case and yellow or brown is the last thing I would want to see in there.

I do let it mellow...unless company is over. There are some things I won't even share with my closest friends
I have noticed a drastic reduction in my waste water bill. I do not have a low-flow toilet, so it is a good options for us.

This is a funny one! Nothing is really off limits I guess. We live out on a farm and have to haul our own water so everything helps. We noticed a HUGE difference in our hauling when we built this new house and had our dugout trenched to the house for the toilet only. Flush as much as you want , its a deep dugout. The only problem is the water stinks about half way through a long hot summer. YUCK!!!!!!! Might as well have nasty stuff in there. After we flush I pour a tiny bit of bleach to try and cut the smell.

lol My dd was just complaining lastnight about that "who peed in the toliet and didn't flush" We lived on a septic when I was growing up and that was a big thing for my mom. You just didn't flush everytime you had to tinkle, but you did if you had to poo. It's just something since then I have always done. I dunno if I see three or four wads of tp in the toilet then I will flush, otherwish no. If I have company yes I flush.
