I think I blew my grocery
budget for July. I went over by about $50. I usually budget $250 a month for three people but it just so dog gone hard to stick to it with all this heat and no place, but the small table to do anything. I know I should be jumping for joy, because when we are through with this remodel I will finally have a real kitchen again, for the first time in many years, but sometimes it's hard being patient, not knowing how soon I will get my kitchen, or if we will even have it done by winter. I am so worried about getting this place sealed up by the time cold weather arrives.
thanks for letting me vent!

Kathy, sounds like you're doing pretty well for everything you have going on right now. Don't worry, once your kitchen is finished you'll be so happy and things will get back to normal again. Hope you post pics once everything is finished.

Remodeling sounds rough! As long as you didn't go into debt by going over $50, I'd try not to worry about it. Some months are harder than others. Stuff happens.

When I go over one month I try to cut back a bit the next month to make up for it, sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. You have a lot going on, so lighten up on yourself. One mistake is not going to put you in the poorhouse, more than likely.
Can't wait to see the pictures of your new kitchen! (hint, hint)

Deep breath, it'll get better. In the grand scheme this is just a mere ripple. Enjoy what you can & move on.
It'll all come together and you'll be relaxing & gloating before you know it.

Thanks you guys. I wish it was just a kitchen remodel, but it's the whole house and yes, I am actually happy about it, it's just that I have been making several mistakes lately and this one just tops it off. If I could have shown you what the house looked like before, as opposed to now you would see the huge difference. The house was 624 sq. ft. total before. Now it's 1488 sq. ft. with a wrap around porch. Can't live in the country without that. I'm happy, I really am. I finally have closets......... I will post some pics when we are done though. We have been blessed with so many good deals on this house, but I am afraid we did go into more debt to do it. In the end it will all be in a mortgage payment, but what we owe will not compare to what it will be worth on the market. We are doing all the work ourselves, mostly DH doing it, but I help as much as I can.
Thanks again for the encouraging words.

being on a budget surely is hard in many ways. once you get the hang of things, it will all come to you. it takes some time, good luck!!!

They always say that remodeling costs more than you think. And it's not only feature creep and underestimating how long things will take. It's also things like take-out and convenience food to make up for the lack of kitchen.
It's to be expected.
