I cut my craft/hobby budget by rethinking how I did my hobbies. I quilt, traditional rug hook and knit. I used to buy new fabric to quilt. Now I only buy what's on sale or rip apart old clothing, or use leftovers from sewing. I still have tons of fabric from my sewing days to be used.
For traditional rug hooking I decided to use recycled wool clothing I pick up at the thrift store, instead of buying new wool. I can overdye it to my heart's content and not worry about ruining it. And I also use natural dyestuff for dyeing. I have the commercial stuff, but rarely use it now.
For knitting I pick yarn up at garage sales and trade it with other knitters for what I want.
When you look at hobbies that way, they can actually be pretty cheap!

I thought I would update everyone on my shopping problem. Since I wrote this I have really changed the way I shop. I would say that I have cut my shopping by 85% and the funny thing is I am more content than before. Things are really going pretty well. After Christmas we are going to start working on some goals for the next year or so. Anyway I just wanted to say that it is amazing the difference since I just put my problem out there. This group has been a God send, even though I do not post that often I do read almost everything. Thanks for all the support.

Hi Jeanna,
I relate so well to what you are saying. I only had a small group of friends growing up then I got married young and some of my friends were still doing the dating scene etc and though we are friends and exchange pleasantries when we see each other we don't really talk on a regular basis. Dh's family is big so I have always found friends in it like with my SILs and I have just reconnected (talking now almost everyday)with an old friend we were friends and talked but sometimes it was hard to be her friend. My friend wouldn't be someone's typical friend she is an alcoholic that can drink any man under a table and she became involved with a guy that introduced her to coke so now she is slowly recovering from being an addict. But really that is it for me.
My dh works long hours also. We don't have our daughter yet and I am more than ready over ready for her. I cannot wait. I am hoping that when she comes I can join some groups with other moms and get to know some people. Actually I pray for this.
I have noticed that I have been spending quite a bit lately and I think it is bc of my depression of wanting my family completed. I am anxious and I buy this and that than think "Oh crap I just spent X for that" .
Jeanna you can pm if you ever need someone to talk to.

Jeanna - we all fall off the wagon and if anyone ever tells you different - dont believe em!

I used to buy/stock up on a ton of toiletries I'd buy while down in the US. I still have plenty to last me until I finally run out - prob next yr or so. I dont have to buy anything and I guess you could say I have a nice 'stockpile' but I really didnt need it at the time I made those purchases.
Live and learn is what I say and yes talking about anything with someone often does help with lifting the invisible guilt that you shouldnt really have felt to begin with -
did that make sense???
