senseless things I've spent money for
Thought I would start this thread. Feel free to jump in and remember, what is senseless to one may not be to another.
1.) Bottle water by the case. For me this is senseless.
2.) A membership to a gym that never gets used.
3.) trash bags for small waste baskets. Store plastic bags are much more frugal.

Forgive me if I don't understand.
Are you posting things you personally spend money on that you think others might think are senseless? Or are you posting things you think are senseless that others spend money on?

I, too, have the gym membership that never gets used!!
I used to NOT buy small trash bags, but if I use grocery bags, by cat eats them!! So, now, I have to buy them so my kitty doesn't get sick. I smoke, so that's money that pretty much wasted...I wish I could quit! I have a Speedway addiction, I go there pretty much every morning for a pop.

OOOHHHH!!! I've got two that I've just given up this month. The first one is:
Dunkin' Donuts--I have coffee and a coffee maker at home. I can easily make it myself!! I KNOW DD tastes so much better, but making my own saves lots of
#2--I'm ashamed to admit it, but I have a HUGE addiction to magazines.
I'm not buying them anymore. I'll get them from the library. Plus my MIL subscribes to like 30 of them and gives me her hand-me-downs. Besides, they all say pretty much the same thing. How many covers have you read that claim you can "Get Organized for the Fall" and "Stay Slim for Life by Walking!" and, my personal favorite, "Eat Chocolate and Lose the Pounds."

I have to agree with the fast food. Also Pepsi which I am trying to stop completely and just drink water. Also my collecting too many things. I get an interest in S&P shakers and I collect them and get burnt out and start collecting something else. I don't collect anything now and I save money and keep from adding more clutter.

For a LONG TIME, I had a huge fascination with the "As seen on TV" gadgets. I loved them and thought they were such great ideas. I was totally taken in on some of them. And while some of them were good, I wasted money on a lot of them. I dodged a bullet though with the boiled egg peeler. . lol.
I too was a HUGE magazine buyer. But I now have it narrowed down to Southern Living and Southern Lady (sometimes a Traditional Home if it has Charles Faudree in it).
Cosmetics
Skin care cleaners/creams
Oh yeah. . the last useless thing I bought was that shedder comb for the dog. What I was using for years turned out to be the best thing for brushing my dog.
Usually when I get it home, I realize what I've done and return it and get my money back.

The senseless magazine addiction has a grip on me right now. I see the new Country Sampler and it just goes on from there. Mary Kay, Pampered Chef.....lots of both. Toys and stuff for my kids that they barely looked at!

Lipstick. How many shades do I need my lips to be? Like anyone even notices that my lips are one shade different than yesterday!!!! I've completely stopped buying lipstick now, but I think I probably have enough to colour us all in! I stopped when I counted out my 'stay on' lipsticks and figured out that I owned almost my rent in lipstick. 5$ here, 10$ there.
cigarettes. It is a huge expense and not only unnecessary, but so harmful.

I'm glad I' not the only one that fell into the collectibles trap. Porcelin dolls, record albums, stuffed pigs, etc, etc. It's kind of depressing looking back at all the money I've spent on that crap.
Let's see what else, I'm still working on cutting back on the fast food and eating out. Not doing very well but slowly but surely I am cutting back.
Something else, I really used to spend too much money on was gifts for people. I still buy gifts and such but now I buy things that are much more in-line with my budget and people seem to like these gifts just as much as the extravigant gifts I used to buy.Have a nice day. Traci
