Where are all the bargains?
I went grocery shopping last night and was bummed b/c I couldn't find any good deals. All of my coupons stunk, too. I'm so sick of "Buy 2 and get 5 cents off." Okay, I'm exaggerating, but I was a little frustrated. I get so jealous when I see people getting $50.00 worth of food for 27 cents!!!
Okay, I'm done my whining. Do you think it's b/c the kids are going back to school next week and grocery stores know that parents are going to have to pack lunches again?

Do you have an Aldi store near you? I don't use coupons myself, mainly for the very same reasons you mentioned, but if I go to Aldi I can buy quite a bit for my mom. I think the most I ever spent there was $85 and I had 10 bags of groceries. I think that's pretty good and I didn't buy anything I didn't use.

I play the grocery game (I heard about it on Food Network) and that is how I am getting my savings. I don't get the list that they want you to pay for but I learn from the discussion board things that are going to be good deals.
I watch the ads and match up coupons to that. Just since I have started in June I have saved over $500 in groceries. I think it all depends on how much time you have to devote to coupon and list watching. I do this on sunday and sit down with my coupons and ads and go thru them to see what it what.
This week I have over $100 in coupons and almost everything is sale items.
It isn't hard to do if you have the time to do it and want to do it.

I watch the flyers and stock up when it comes in. Recently, two kg. of Kraft peanut butter was on sale for 3.69 each (normally 5.69 at the cheapest place I could find). I love peanut butter and use it to supplement some protein in my diet, so I bought two jars. That should last me til the next time I buy.
I also keep a price book, clip out the items I want from the flyers, with the date and store written on them, and paste them in a scrap book, so I can track the time between sales. For example, I know that at one grocery store about four months ago, they had BOGO on boneless skinless chicken breasts. Well, just a week ago, another store had BOGO on them too. So now I can assume it'll be four months before they go on sale again.
loves chicken, but refuses to buy it unless it's on sale. So he bought $60 worth of the chicken, giving him $120 worth for his money (then he cut the breasts in half, because they were a pretty good size, and got $240 worth of portions for his original $60).
