Supermarket manager gave me a nasty look today
I have been going to the same store each week or twice a week for years. Well, last Wednesday I picked up 6 cans of corn that were marked on sale. After I left, I realized I was charged the inflated regular price. When I went back that day, I was told the sale ended the day before and it didn't matter that the sign was still up...so I returned them. Yesterday, I picked up canned tuna which was on sale this week and stocked near a sale sign. I really try to watch the register....but only after I left I realized they charged me the regular price, almost 4 times the sale amount. When I went back this morning, I was told that the sale item was different than what I bought (they look very similar) and that another customer probably put those items near the sign. So, I returned it. The cashier was very nice, but the manager that came to check the return (I think it was the same person) gave me a look that could kill. I think she also made the cashier nervous since after she credited me my credit card, the cashier tried to give me cash back. I returned the cash to her and checked my reciept to confirm my card was credited. Do you think I was wrong to go back and question their "sale" items? All together it was about $21.

I don't think that you were wrong at all.

No and I would have done the same thing. If the sign was still up that's their fault and here they would have had to give you the sale price!

We have done the same thing many times. You were exactly right. That is your $$$$, not theirs.

Of course you were right. You're the only one who is going to look out for your best interests. Besides, $21 is a good sum of money.

Thank you all for your posts. I feel so much better. This has really bothered me today since I go to the same store all the time.

You know what? Not only were you right to watch out for your own interests, but that manager seems to have an attitude problem. Most stores wouldn't even consider giving their regular customers a hard time over these things. Doesn't that manager know that word of mouth is the best or worst advertisement?

I agree with everyone eles, you've got to watch out for the HOMETEAM! As for the manager well maybe she was just having a bad day or perhaps she needs a kind word. Be really nice to her the nexttime you see her, perhaps learn her name and greet her by it. Look to make her a friend.

Happens to me all the time....
The one supermarket I frequent because they double coupons, almost ALWAYS screws up at least one sale price. I try to pay attention at the register, but now I ALWAYS stand after the checkout and check my slip (three screaming kids and all). If there is a problem I march right over to the office.
And sometimes I too get the nasty look...but I get it when I walk away with MY MONEY.May today there be peace within...

When I used to be a cashier at a grocery store a few years ago, if even a single sign was left up with the sale price and a customer noticed, we had to give it to them for the sale price. (if the retailer is following the Voluntary Scanning Price Accuracy code, then they will even give you the item for free up to $10.00) As a customer you shouldn't be responsible for making sure they have accurate signage. As a retailer that is their responsibility.
As for the manager, they have no right to give you dirty looks. Even if they were having a bad day, as a manager they should know better than to be rude to a customer. If it happens again, I would contact either the store owner or the franchise owner. Most managers who want to keep their customers happy, and go out of their way to be courteous (after all, your money does help to pay their salary)personal loan 900/15000

I know that when I worked at a store, if the advertised price was still up, we had to honor it because it was our fault.. Now if some items were placed wrong by another customer then it was up to management.. Sometimes they let it go and sometimes not.. If however, an employee put the entirely wrong item in a wrong home, then again we had to honor it because it was our fault not the customers... I also agree that word of mouth is the best advertisement, and the manager should be well aware that bad plublicity about her attitude can cause a alot of problems... I would have and I have gone in and got my moneys back... Ignore the stares and glares, they are not the ones that were going to lose money, you were....

I'll have to agree, one local store does let that one day (I think tuesday or wednesday) both ads be in place. Believe me I try to go on that day. But if the sign is up, in our state they have to honor it.

I think you were oh so right to have returned the items! I also think that if they had the sale sign up after the sale had ended, they should honor the sale price, but sometimes you just have to choose your battles....
