Am I right to be a little bit miffed?
We picked up our 1/2 cow packaged and all. We were told to expect about 65% of hanging weight. We got 50%. We were told it comes out to about 1.66 a lb. Well I got it home and weighed everything on my postal scale(I know it is within 1 oz accurate) and it comes out to 3.38 a lb. I realize I can not get t-bones, sirloin, ribeyes for anywhere near that but we ended up with about 75lbs of hamburg out of 168 lbs of meat. Does anyone else here purchase their meat in bulk and what do you pay? Thanks.

hmmmm....I am not sure what it would cost here, but I would think if they told you it would be one price and it was more than double that -- well I'd certainly complain! The nice thing is that you will be very well stocked for meat for a long time, but the promised price should at least be close, and that is not even close!

When get our meat from a friend my dh works with and we paid $1.33 lb and we got a lot of meat.
We did have to pay a processing fee to the butcher which was like $68 or so. I don't think your price was bad but something doesn't sound right I would check with them on Monday and ask them for sure the price.

I paid a 1.75 a pound for 330 pounds of meat. Most of mine is in hamburger due to the fact we don't eat a lot of roast. I have that ground up.

well we have to count in, the butchering fee, the packaging material and the processing fee....(my dad pays it all, its his cow.)...so you have to find out all the fees., i'd call him and be nice and say just trying to figure out where YOUR error was....so you can plan for next year...and then he'll explain..and maybe discover HIS error

I should clarify. We were told 1.00 a lb before butchering(our 1/2 weighed 334lbs) then the butcher charged .55c lb plus a couple fees. The woman who was raising the cow told me it comes out to about 1.66 lb. Perhaps she meant before butchering. She also told me you get about 65% of original weight in meat. We got 50%. I know fuel prices are effecting prices everywhere even on the cost of feed so I don't want to complain too much its just we don't buy expensive cuts of meat ever so I feel like I am paying over 3.00lb for ground beef when I get it on sale regularly for 1.99lb very lean.
