    Default Resisting temptation

I'm having friends over for dinner tonight. I went out this morning to pick up the things I need and while I was out I wanted in the worst way to buy a couple mums and a scarecrow and wreath for the front stoop. I just LOVE fall and it's decorations but I just cannot afford it with cash right now. It's more important that I buy back this retirement and that's THAT

    YOU CAN DO IT!!

I wanted to get some mum's for the front porch and side of house but have talked myself out of it. I would like a fall wreath thou but I don't have one maybe after season I will find something I like on sale. I might get one mum but that is all but right now I am not getting any.

You can do it thou think about your goal and what you really really really want!!

Fall decorations are soooo hard for me to resist. I love them so much. I want to fill a basket with mini pumpkins, gourds and mini Indian Corn. I do this each year and it usually costs about $10. I love the real ones, but I feel so guilty tossing them out after Thanksgiving. I probably should get some fake ones at the craft store and use every year.

Good job DG! You followed the golden rule, "If you can't pay cash for it then you can't afford it." Next time avert your eyes from the fall decorations.

I have the same problem during most holidays. It's just not in the budget, but the decorations are too cute & hard to resist.

Kudos for not submitting to the urge to shop.

I'm expecting a niece, soon - and it's been difficult to resist those baby sales.

My suggestion would be to make your own scare crow if you have access to some old clothes, maybe some packing peanuts, and an old broom stick. Out at the fair this year I saw some very creative scarecrows the kids made for projects.
Also, do you have access to any farms in your area? Maybe a farmer would allow you to pick a few stalks of corn to gather together for a display.
I love fall displays too, but I don't do any displays with the remodel going on. I live near farms and it's really hard to never get to do anything like that, at least not until we are near completion.
Good for you in resisting temptation. I, too, have wanted to buy the mums for my front porch, but wouldn't look too cute with all the siding boxes and insulation sitting on the porch at the moment.
Hang in there. You're doing great!

Thanks for all the positive feedback!
Dave and I had the two couples we go bicycling with over and my son surprised us and showed up and it was a fantastic evening and do you know what...noone even noticed that I didn't have mums etc.
I would have spent $30 and it wouldn't have had a single effect on how the evening went!
    Maybe next year....

Good job! I have a lot of trouble with this one too. In fact so much trouble that I bought the mums. Felt kind of guilty, admired them for a week and then killed the stupid things (I have a black thumb -- I have truly never known anyone else to kill a mum before, for heaven's sake!) Now I feel REALLY rotten about buying them

I love the idea of making your own scarecrow! I am gong to try that with the kiddos. I always go out and cut long grasses and cattails, collect cool looking leaves, and take as much stuff from the yard as possible. My neighbor has a huge hydrangea tree in the front yard and has given me permission to go cut as many of those as I want.

I've managed to kill mums, too. At least they were free to me. I kinda got reactions from people..."What? How'd your mums die?"
    Oh well!
