Default Deep freezers...what do you have?

What size and what style (chest or upright)? Do you like it?

We are going to buy one, and it's going to be outside in the dusty, unairconditioned laundry room, if that makes a difference.

    All feedback/opinions welcome!

I have an upright freezer in my dusty basement. That workhorse is close to 20 years old. It is not a frost free, so it has to be defrosted regularly, but it is easy to do. I just connect a piece of garden hose to the hose underneath and run it to the drain, turn it off, turn on a box fan to blow inside, and it pretty much does itself.

We had a huge chest freezer growing up, and I remember standing on a stool to reach the stuff in the bottom. You can probably get more items in a chest freezer, but it takes up more wall space.

We have a chest freezer, medium size. I wish we had an upright, but then we wouldn't have anywhere to put it here in our rental. It does make nice counter space and I fold the laundry on it from time to time We can fit a lot of stuff in it, but I have to take everything out to get to the stuff on the bottom. That's why I would rather have an upright myself. We've only had to defrost it once though and it's been working a good three years for us. I think we paid $150 or so for it. A wise investment for sure.

We also have a medium sized chest freezer. I love it. It is a great size for just the 2 of us and does not take up a huge amount of space. I had an upright freezer and it was not frost free and sat in my kitchen so defrosting was a chore and I absolutely hated doing it.

I have a 19 cubic foot upright and I like it. It is about 20 years old so when it dies I will replace it with the same size as it is about the right size for us. It is not frost free so I do have to defrost it. It is not really a big deal for me to defrost as the floor drain is about 2 feet from it, so I just put a box fan in front of it and in about an hour it is done.

Another chest freezer here. It lives in the garage with what we call our drink refrig. Doubles often as a table for working on. I keep a log sheet on the bulletin board over it so I have some idea of whats in it. We set our up on blocks for 2 reasons one to encourage air circulation and incase we get flooded it doesn't get wet. As long as its only a small flood. We got our at Home Depot about 5 years ago because our old one bit the dust. It was on the get rid of pile for $75.00 because of a scratch on the front and top. Funny I hardly notice eirther of them when I'm digging out food for my family.

Just bought a small chest freezer over the summer here. It is not frost free, but that's ok. I hated doing without it. It's a small one that fits right into our pantry and I can keep a running list by it for what's inside. I like it, would love an upright, but uprights cost more in many ways.

Med. sized chest freezer here. I love it and don't know what I would do without it. It allows me to stock up on freezer items when I find them on sale. It's not frost free, but I haven't had to defrost it in the 4 years we have been in this house. I would say it's about 7 years old, haven't had any problems with it (knock on wood) and we paid approx. $200 for it.

We also have a medium size chest frezer. I love it. I am only five foot tall and have no problem getting things out of it. I plan to get a larger one in the next year or two.

We purchsed a "smallish" 7 cu. ft. chest freezer early this spring. I absolutely love it! We got ours at Lowes. I used a 10% off coupon. The price with tax after the coupon was $161.

We have a medium sized chest freezer. Aside from it being difficult to defrost because it has no drain in the bottom (we bought a shop-vac at a yard sale just for that purpose) I love it. It has a basket on the top as well as a shelf on one side so I can put the things I either don't want to get squished (before they are frozen) or the stuff I need to get to sooner.

ETA: We keep ours in our unheated basement. The only issue with that is in the summer when the furnace isn't going (and keeping the air circulated) we get condensation on the top of the freezer. I just keep an old towel on it to soak it up and toss it in the dryer once a week or so.

We have a big big upright and I love it right now it is stuffed full nothing else will fit in it. We looked at a chest freezer but I don't want to have to dig everything else out to get something I want that is on the bottom of the freezer.

We are thinking about getting another one a little smaller then what we have because I have no room whatsoever left in there.

We have a Hair medium sized chest and I love it. I really don't think that I could function without it.

Well we have an around 17 foot chest freezer. It isn't big enough for us (family of 6) and I really want an upright. It is very difficult to find things and I frequently think I have something when we have already used all of it. It is a frustration for me. If you can afford it, I would recommend an upright.
