Good point! That always annoys me about t.v commercials. How am I "saving" if I wasn't going to buy that in the first place?

I know a lot of people who think that way. I've always wondered how they 'saved' money with the great sales when they originally weren't planning on buying it in the first place. *scratches head* Advertisers.. they sure know what they're doing, eh?

    Bring on them baby steps...
    Step 1: done
Step 2: waiting on amount, hubby had followup colonoscopy, I had visit to ER with followup procedure
Step 3: to follow, won't know aim until things settle
Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
    Step 5: grown child
    Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
    Step 7: ahhhh....

~This is a very important point to calculating your true savings. TG has a good section on this. Last night I spent $26 at Acme and "saved" $46. But if I add up all my items at the price I usually buy at, I actually only "saved" $4.48. For example. I usually buy boneless chicken at $1.99lb.Acme had it at $1.69lb.I bought 6lbs and saved $1.80.I bought 4 jars of spagetti sauce at $1 a jar, my usual price. I bought 6 boxes of brownie mix at $1 each, my usual price, but I had 2 $1 of coupons so I saved $2.I bought 3 cartons of my favorite ice cream for $6. I usually buy Aldi ice cream at $2.29 each so I saved .87. I also bought wheat flour at .19 more than my usual price because I haven't seen my price in four months. So my savings was $4.48. It's easy to get sucked into the elation that goes with "saving" $46 or whatever, but it's not reality, just hype. ~

I love this. My dh is a notorious sale shopper. He thinks we need something because it's on sale. Last night is a good example. We were at Walmart for a few necessities and over the loud speaker they kept announcing they had Magic Bullets for only $20 which really is a heck of deal if that's what you went for. That was not what we went for and I had the hardest time convincing him it was not a need just because the price was right. IMO, the price wasn't right because we just didn't need it. Thankfully I won out and a smart choice was made. I can see though that I have my work cut out for me. He's going to have a very hard time living cash only, but that's the way it has to be.
