    Default Delayed gratification

My husband is away on business for a few days and he just called me and said that at the conference he heard a neuro surgeon speak this morning (which makes me wonder if he was in the right room--he's an investment officer and has nothing to do w/medicine--LOL) on life lessons and one thing he discussed was delayed gratification. My dh says there are things that he wants to implement with our ds when he gets home. I'm a bit nervous--we already delay as much as possible!! If you haven't guessed, my dh is the really frugal one of the two of us.

Ok, first -- LOVE the quote and avatar combo. I'm not crazy over -- "Dr. McDreamy" is that the right guy? -- but that has to be the most adorable thing I've seen today.

Second, I have no idea what delayed gratification is. Can you elaborate?

Hmm, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Dh number two will spoil everyone I'm sure

On that note, isn't delayed gratification just what it sounds like. You know you want something, but you have to wait for it, earn it, something other than just getting it in the here and now.

I think that delayed gratification is the key to getting out of debt and becoming financially fit! It's about growing up.

Exactly right--delayed gratification is not getting what you want right now. It's taking the time and thinking about your purchases and perhaps saving up for something you really want. I always think of Varuca Salt from the old "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" when she says, "I don't care how. I want it NOW!"

We never buy our kids anything and everything when they want it. In fact, my friends are always amazed that I can take my kids to Toys R Us and come out with nothing because we just went in to look. Right now both boys desparately want scooters b/c all their friends have them. They will get them as their "big" Christmas present.

    cricket-your avatar rocks!

Good for you in practicing parental self-control...My children never got toys "just because"-birthdays and Christmas were special occasions.
