Default How Old Is Your Car?

    Hello all,

Newb making my way through the boards. I work two full-time jobs, one is at a Fortune 500 company where the parking lots are littered with SUVs, BMWs and other 3-letter vehicles that cost a much as a house. You should see some of the looks I get when I pull my little beater in each day. I am always asked why I don't buy a new car.

I commute an hour twice a day and don't see the need to buy a new car that I am just going to drive into the ground at 500 miles a week. I currently drive a 91 Honda Civic with 356,000 miles on it that I have owned free and clear since 1996. Yeah, the radio or A/C doesn't work, but it is reliable, easy on gas and is PAID FOR.

How many years does your beater have under the hood?

    Dolores

Our van is a 2000. We paid cash for it and we like it, although it is currently in the shop for expensive repairs.

My car is a 2006 Hyundai Sonata that is 7 months old but DH's truck is a 1997 Chevy S10 that is long paid off and still runs great. My trade in on my new car was a 93 Bonneville with 210,000 miles on it, I hated trading for years worth payments but I needed a new car for the commute back and forth to work. I do like my new car but not that monthly payment .

Ohhhhh I love HONDA!!! I will never drive anything but a Honda!

I have a 2003 Honda CR-V -- great car! I'll drive it til it falls apart, which for a Honda should be a loooooooooooong time from now.

I traded in a Honda Civic for my CR-V -- (after my little j was born, so we'd have a bit more room)

The Honda dealership had an old civic up on the turny thing near the road, it had over 400,000 miles on it! It was for sale in the used lot, but they thought it would make a bolder statement by displaying it near the road - apparently the guy that traded it in only did so because he was ready to, not because the car had issues..... wow..... just wow.....

I also have a Honda (van) and I love it...it will be 6 years old in a couple months and I plan to drive it for a long, long time more. My dream-goal is to pay off some stuff, save my full EF and then save up each month so that down the road I can buy another Honda and pay cash. DHes truck is 7 years old, but he doesn't have too many miles on it and trucks look good rugged so we are keeping that for many, many, many more years also.

Dolores, I also work in a place where many people have nice cars...not too many BMW type...mostly they get new vehicles every few years. I don't let it get to me, I am happy with what I have and when they make the occasional comments I smile, becuase I know I am doing the right thing for my family. Your co-workers may envy you that you can stand against the peer pressure.

Default 1998 Honda Civic 2 door coupe!!!

I love my Honda. Our daughters drove 2 identical used Honda Accords thru college. The most dependable cars we have ever owned. I maintain it and I will drive it for many more years.

(1 DD sold her Accord after she finished college for the same $$ she paid for it and after she had put 200,000 miles on it.)

9 year old camry with 100,000 miles.
DH has the volvo which is 5 years old now. But it was a loss leader. The ad was to get people in the door, they never expected anyone to want the car with no CD player, cloth seats, and manual transmission.
