The important thing is to forgive yourself and then forget it. Today is a brand new day.

It's OK, we all fall backwards once in a while. The main thing is that you became aware of your spending, before your EF was depleted. Don't be too hard on yourself, being sick is hard for everyone. You have built your EF before, I know you can do it again! We'll be cheering you on!

Give yourself a break. It happens. Jump back on the frugal bandwagon the best you can, starting today. We all backslide occasionally.
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Just try and take a deep breath and relax. I find that I'm usually pretty good and then something will happen and I'll just go crazy (like the last month, where I've spent $285 on my digital camera, $150 on Sephora.com, eaten out too much, got special scented oil air freshners from Bath & Body Works - my CC balance is now the highest it's been since 2001). I always stop and pause for a bit, and think about what really made me spend all that money. I can generally calm my spending habits down after that, but I don't beat myself up because 90% of the time I'm pretty good at managing my money, and like you said - none of the bills are late and you're EF is still there.

It's a good thing you recognized it and admitted to it, that's the first step and believe me we all take a step backwards, like me who's EF needs to be re-funded since I had to go to the Dr. and an unexpected expense came up but I am working on that and not beating myself up over it.

It's ok. The difference between you and a lot of other people that do not practice frugality...is that you know that you slipped alittle. Its' ok...we all have had a time when we have done that..So pick yourself up and dust yourself off and get started being frugal again..you can do it...Kathy

i too slipped off the wagon this week. spent 300 on new luggage-- for a trip in oct. i could have borrowed from my family but oh no i wanted my own. also spent 80 on scrapbooking supplies. arggh. this was money to be used for the snowball. i really dont know why i went nuts. i am going to try a new trick i read about. when you're in the spending like crazy mood, go ahead and shop(i usually shop online). write down everything you want and the price ona piece of paper. dont set any limits, write it all down. ok now dont pay for it. place the list in an envelope and seal it. in two weeks if you can name everything you wanted ont he list and still want it, buy it. the theory is we want all this crap now but if we wait do we truly remember what we wanted or was it all impulsive junk.

Gee, you could work yourself up over and get ... an ulcer ...
I just had to say it. But it is a good question, how do you deal with problems.

Don't beat yourself up too much. As soon as you get on your feet and well you can get back with the program.
