OT: Korean adoptive moms questions for you
Hi there,
As you will see in my siggy I am adopting a little girl from China. We want to adopt again and was hoping to do China but have talked Korea. China will do a big about turn on their qualifications and I am flagged on two well dh and I need to lose weight which I am starting WW again have to stick and dh will do it under my guidance here but I have an anxiety/depression issue more anxiety that has been successfully treated with my meds and therapy.
I know Korea has weight limits but I don't know about anxiety/depression issues. We know most babies are boys with your first referral which is fine but what are some of the things they will look for?
Will having adopted a child already be in our favor? My agency don't do any Korean adoptions. When I have mentioned my concerns in the past about wait times with China they told me to adopt from Guatemala for our second child. That is ok too however I would like both my children to be of an asian backround.
Does anyone know any good agencys I can contact?
TIA

I don't have any ideas, sorry. I just wanted to tell you that I think it's wonderful what you're doing. In our area there are lots of children that need homes in orphanages. Have you checked locally? It might make things simpler, cheaper and you could accomplish your goals quicker (I mean possibly...you may have already thought about this). Good luck with your search.

Wide Horizons for Children: http://whfc.org/
They were fantastic!!! And if you knew me, I do not praise lightly - I am a highly critical person. They were extremely honest. I know people who used other agencies that were told that they would get babies of certain age and I knew that would never happen. But these people were so far into the process emotionally and financially that when their referral came with a much older child, they couldn't say no. And they were extremely competent. Instead of having us directly send forms to the US government, they would have us give it to them and they would review the documents to make sure we didn't mess anything up. And they had this wonderful "hotline" that you could call as often as you wanted to and get an automated message stating the progress of referrals and travel for your particular country.
They do have an office in Rhode Island.
My guess is that they'll make you wait until 6 months after child #1 is home to begin the process. And you should ask them about the current requirements of adopting from both China and Korea. There are multiple agencies in those countries and they may not go through one that has requirements about weight or other issues. Can't hurt to call and ask all your questions. They'll be happy to answer.
As far as boy or girl from Korea. Back when we adopted, you couldn't make a request if this child was to be the first child in the household. But if there were already children in the house, you could request. The wait for girls was a month or two longer at the time. Our first child was a boy, we requested a girl for the second child.
By the way, Angelina Jolie used this agency.

I agree with ironmaiden. I know on their website they use to have an area for specific country requirements, maybe they still do??? All I can really remember about Korea was age requirements.
