That was really a great article. I was a little shocked by the fact that for a family of 3, she is spending $800 on groceries each month and then added in there that she is buying diapers with that money as well, as if that evened it out. I'm spending $250 a month on groceries for a family of 5 with two in diapers. And yet, she didn't see that as an area that she could cut back on. Interesting, but we all have different priorities, I guess!

I'm with you Amy....$800.00 a month on groceries and diapers seems a little steep for a family of three. I'd be looking at cutting back there before looking at the utilities.

Wow I dont even spend $100 a month for a family of 5 and no babies in diapers either.... I just have a great stockpile of things we eat on a normal basis so cooking here is easy.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the food thing too. Even if she's buying premium brand name diapers, that's going to be maybe $150 a month. I'm trying to think how I could possibly spend $650 on groceries for me and my husband (and baby food at 31 cents per jar).

Also $400 for entertainment? They must either go to really nice restaurants all the time or spend a lot of money on babysitters!

Fanny means "butt" here in Massachusetts...

    Off to read the article.

Hmmm "she has never owned a credit card...(she uses an American Express card when necessary)" umm doesn't that mean that she does have a credit card?

    And wow. $800/mo.

$400/mo. for fun? Yeah, I'd say she should be saving more of that $400 vs. using it for fun.

$1100 for a mortgage in DC? That's pretty darn good.

I'd like more details about her lifestyle because I'm just not as impressed as the author. Different strokes for different folks, and everything is relative I guess

I guess the whole point is that she doesn't do any recreational shopping. It's great that she has savings and lives within her means, but maybe they should just call her 'Responsible Rump', because if she is spending $800 a month on groceries for essentially 2 people, her fanny isn't that frugal.
