Oh, Yankee Mom...you are VERY blessed! Most of our PPO plans, the crowns are 850-1200 dollars. A big 'silver'(amalgam) filling can be almost 350!
Brush and floss daily, ladies!!

That's after our $1200/year dental insurance.
Actually that was the quote with United Concordia. I'm not sure how much Delta Dental covers. A little bit less I think.
What is PPO?

Lordy sakes, I feel so..bad for you Danni. It is bad enough to need procedures done for the sake of health, but then to get slammed with that kind of cost, goodness things seem ridiculously expensive any more. I hope it all works out for you.
taking one day at a time, trying to get rid of debt!!

The cost for the crowns is the whole procedure before our insurance. I'm just not sure if crowns fall under the regular dental which is 80%, I was told that they covered less than that with crowns. Just waiting to see.
EF $703.21
STARTING DEBT $40,567.12
DEBT TO DATE $5,571.24

Danni, I had to have 3 crowns done in May. Our insurance says we pay only 20%, but it turns out that it was 50% for the type of dental work I had done. I about had a heart attack when I was handed the $1700 bill, considering I'd thought I only had to pay 20%. Oh, and our insurance only covered up to $1200/year. Guess I should be grateful it was only $1700... I know I'll need more done before too long, though. My bad teeth are genetic, unfortunately.
For your sake, I hope you truly are only responsible for 20%. Still... it's a lot of money! But teeth and medical are so necessary. So freaking expensive, but so necessary! You're very fortunate to have a dentist willing to work with you on payment.

Crowns are "major restorative" and usually covered at 50%(though each plan is different). The root canals should be 80% though. That's why it's best to do pre-determinations...no surprises that way.
YankeeGirl...a PPO is a "preferred provider", as opposed to a DMO. Better coverage for the patient, better payments for the dentist, and more participating dentists to choose from.

I have to add, my root canals aren't from lack of brushing/flossing. I have teeth that are weak and cracking because we had well water growing up. Well water=no flouride. No flouride=weak teeth.
Now we have flouridated water, the flouride is actually weakening my teeth even more because it's getting in the cracks and causing decay.
So....make sure your kids have flouridated water growing up!!

I have to second that. I have horrible teeth and grew up without a lot of flouride. All of my molars have major fillings and I chip my teeth regularly. I've been putting off going to the dentist because I know a root canal is in my future. I had no dental care until I was a teen and just getting all of that work done has put some big fear in me. I'm so sorry Danni to hear you need so much dental work.

I feel for you. I have work that needs to be done and was quoted at $7500 for three crowns, and two bridges, not including the surgery to remove three roots in my mouth. Sorry about that.
