I'm Jealous-150lb coin bag
I thought It would be fun to share this story that dh shared with me this week.
On Monday a guy at his job brought in a soft carry on type bag full of coins. It weighed 150lbs. He brought it in because he was going to go to the bank with "The Boss" because his bank has a coin counter.
Tuesday, I get the report that the grand total was over $1,000. $81 in pennies, over $600 in quarters and the remaining was nickels and dimes.
I wonder how long it took to save and how often and how much on average he put coins into his " pennie jar".
With our new goal to spend less, I fear it will take us forever to even reach 1/4 of that. A goal to strive for huh.

~How in the world did he carry a bag weighing 150lbs?!?! My coin jar is a small jam jar. When it gets almost full I wrap everything I can and deposit it. That way I earn interest(and don't get a hernia!

Wow! That's a lot of change!
There was a guy on the news here a while back. He had saved (literally) barrels full of change for most of his life. He finally cashed it all in. It came to over $30,000! :surprise: Can you imagine?!? Of course, the newsguy reporting made a comment about how much more that would have been if he'd put it in the bank to earn interest.

Dh and I took our box full of coins to the bank last year and received about $500 for it. We saved our change for 1 year. We wheeled it to the bank in a rolling suitcase.

We don't accept rolled coin at the bank I work at. If the count of the coin in the roll is off, it could cause our drawers to be off, which would result in us having to write it off. Not cool. Anyways,
I had a guy bring in 3 buckets full of change that he had been saving for about 3 years and it came to 825ish. Mainly quarters.McD

That is alot of change. Dh and I have about three places that we keep our loose change. All are small boxes. Last time that I chased in what we had was a couple hundred. Which when I did that I was going out of town to see my family so I used that money for our trip. It beat putting all the gas and hotel room on eaither the credit card and debit card.

I have a tiny piggy bank for change. Whenever it gets full we just use it at the U-Scan at the grocery store...it takes about 3-5 min to feed it all in, but it beats counting it and rolling it (our banks won't take tons of loose change...and they make you write your FULL acct # on the rolls you turn in...which are give to total strangers...makes me nervous!).

We have one of those big plasic coke bottles that stands about 2 and a half foot tall. The furthest we've ever gotten it was about 8 or 10 inches full and that was several hundred dollars. We've always wondered what it would come out to if we let it get full.

They sure saved a lot of coins!! I just use an old cottage cheese container for my change, I'm not sure how much is in there now but I can guarantee it is nowhere near what that guy got!

there was a guy in our town several years ago that saved all his change (i dont remember for how long he saved) from doing his lawn mowing jobs, to go down town and buy a brand new extended cab chevy pickup. just so he could haul his lawnmowing tools around and wouldn't have to bum rides anymore. man, thats alot of change.

It's amazing how change adds up. We recently turned ours in, and it was nearly $50! It only about 1/2 filled an old liquor bottle. (Hubby and I don't drink, but he used to bartend and he swiped the empty bottle because it looked cool.

I use a large vase that a dozen roses came in. When it gets full I just carry the whole thing to the bank and run it through the sorter. I usually can't wait that long (lol) so I take it to the bank about once a quarter. Nets around $60 each time then I apply it to debt reduction and savings.
