    Default grocery shopping question

So I am sitting here going through the sale papers and making a list for this weeks shopping trip. One of the stores is doing a thing where if you spend $75 each week over the next 8 weeks you get a $50 gift card to that area. Now here is my dilema, what I want from this store this week total around $40, should I figure out what to add to it to make it $75 and commit myself to the $75 each week for the gift card from this store. Or just stick the list I have and forgo the gift card. I am so trying to figure out in the long run what is the more frugal way to go.

Well if what you want is $40 every week and you buy $75 a week for 8 weeks you are spending an extra $35 a week, no? That's an extra $280 and you're only getting back $50.

I would look at the loss leaders and things you could stock up on--then, after you get your card, you're still stocked up and that would save in the long run.

But, if you're seriously not able to spend that much each week, forgo the card. It wouldn't be worth it in the end.

I agree with acidcookie, in the long run by only spending the $40 a week you are saving more than trying to get that $50 gift card.

My list for this store is the loss leaders. What I would add to it would be milk and stuff for the week. Generally I get my milk and eggs and a few other things from sams because the milk itself is over $1 cheaper then it is in the grocery stores. I did figure out though that over an 8 week period I am saving $40 on the milk for our family, so that made it not worth the gift card. I tell ya this trying to think more frugally is hard. So glad I found this site so I have ya'll to help me out.
