Default Does anyone get their taxes done at Walmart???

i have always done our taxes, but this year they are just to complicated for me. I never can get the forms I need at the post office or library, I call the IRS, always busy, and I would like to have our refund back quicker this year. When I briefly asked the man at the tax area at Walmart, he said it is $130 to do federal and state, plus my Schedule A. I can get the refund back the next day but it will cost 3% of the refund, with a maximum amount allowed, I think $65. I cannot do the federal on the net because of using long form deductions. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated, also, has anyong bought TUrbo tax or anything like that, using the long form? Thanks.

Not sure of your income, but on the www.irs.gov site you can get your taxes done for free online. I've been doing this for years and its very, very easy to do. Plus, I always get my refund in less than 2 weeks. They ask the questions online and you answer them. Then you can print them out before your sent. I have always used TaxActOnline and love them. I wouldn't pay a person to do it when they will mostly ask you the same questions the computer will, but they'll take your money. LOL. If you have any questions, PM me. I've been doing my own taxes for 20 years and absolutely love doing it online.

No, we have never gone to WalMart or H&R Block or any of these types of places. Until just a few years ago, I just did them myself. Things are more difficult now. We go to an accountant, the same account we see throughout the year. He charges us less to do our taxes then the place you're speaking of. He files them electronically for us and we typically have the money deposited into our account within 2 weeks. State usually takes longer then Federal.
Yesterday there was a thread on those anticipation loans , you may want to track that down before doing anything.

Wanted to add a link to the thread:

I don't think Walmart is the loan that was being talked about. Not sure though. Any more insight on this subject, would help me greatly. Also, I don't think I can do my taxes online because of income.

Honestly I would do them myself, or call an accountant. We used an accountant the first year my dh was selfemployeed because the business expenses scared me and we had to do part year resident state taxes. The account cost us $98 for the federal return and state return. you said that you have tried calling the IRS to get the forms that you need, you can print them off at irs.gov, you can also print off the directions.

That bit about charging 3% just to get the refund the next day does sound like a refund anticipation loan. And it seems kind of silly to me.

I've used TaxCut for years and love it. I know that TurboTax is just about the same thing, either one would probably work for you. They just ask you questions and you type in all of the information from your W-2's, 1099's, and whatever else you have, and it will do all of the calculations for you and just print out the forms you need. You can print them and sign them and mail them in. I think it's around $30 for both Federal and State. I'd highly recommend it.

I do it for free from irs.gov too. Your income level doesn't mean you CAN'T do them online, just that it may not be free. But it will be cheaper than $130!

Don't go to Wal-Mart! I did it one year and got my refund back the next day. It is a type of refund loan. If something happens that the IRS holds your refund, you have to repay the refund loan out of pocket. Too costly. I always get my taxes filed for free by trained volunteers at my local library. You can do a search at IRS.gov for free local tax help. You can also contact your local IRS office. In my area they have an office where you can get your taxes filed for free if you make less than $50,000 for a single. I am not sure what the limit is for married.
    Hope that helps

Any store-front type of tax prep place makes me itchy. lol I use and accountant. She is worth every.single.penny I pay her. WHen I first started using her she had me bring in my last few years tax returns that I'd done myself with turbo tax and she reviewed them. She ended up filing amendments to those returns and getting me back an extra $4000 because turbo tax wasn't detailed enough or was missing things.

An experienced accountant, NOT and H&R block person either, is worth every penny.

We use an accountant. If I were you I'd try Turbo Tax before I trusted anyone at walmart to do them.....jmho. If all else fails you could pay an accountant a minimal fee if your return isn't too complicated.

We use a CPA. The last thing on Earth I want is to tangle with the IRS, so I'm willing to pay a pro to do ours.

I would have a hard time shelling out $130 for someone else to do my taxes.

DH is a CPA, so is his brother. In addition his father and brother-in-law are both accountants, not CPAs though. So needless to say our taxes are done in house.

I have been using Turbo Tax for years. I think I paid $45 for the deluxe version with the state included.
