It's not our imagination!
Someone recently started a post on how prices seemed higher, especially at the grocery store. She was right! :surprise: I just found this article on my local online newspaper:

I just read across my t.v. screan that food and gas went up 4%.....
I think its terrible.........we don't get a cost of living raise when prices get to high we can afford them and everything else
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

~DH got a 4.5% raise this year. Better than nothing but disappointing when our sales tax rate went from 6% to 7%(which is a 16.5% increase), our property taxes went up 12% this year and electricity is up 31%. Good news though is that loan interest rates are still low and savings account rates are going up and natural gas is the same price as last January. Consumer goods are definately going up. Most food prices in my area are up 5-10% compared to 6 months ago. We're eating less meat and sweets to stay within the budget.~

Dh did not get a raise this year. Everything went up but his pay, that went down. Things are so slow for him he is only working about 30 hrs a week. At the rait we wont even be able to afford rice and beans. I knew I wasnt crazy when I though everything at walmart went up.

It is getting bad here, too. I went to the store this week, and onions were $2.19 a pound for white onions, and $1.89 a pound for yellow. Apples were $1.99 a pound. Our gas prices are climbing back up, too. Gas was $2.39 a gallon on Monday, and by Tuesday night it was $2.53 all over the city.
Our cable TV, natural gas, water, and trash bills have all seen increases in the last few months. It is bad. It now takes over half of our take home pay for rent and utilities (natural gas, electric, water, trash, phone, cable and internet service). What is left has to pay for food, gas and insurance for the car, clothing, entertainment (we spend nothing on entertainment, because we can not afford to go anywhere or do anything), gifts, medical care, dental, and prescription drugs. We have no health, life, or dental insurance. My DH's employer does not offer any benefits like insurance, and we just can not afford insurance, except for liability on the car.
Everything seems to be going up except our income. Our income actually was a few hundred dollars less in 2006 than it was in 2005, and less than half of what it was in 2003.

Sure glad that its just not my imagination. My hubby got a 3% this month but it really has no impact on the bills. It was eaten up before we ever got it. With taxes going up, gasoline and the electric company increases we are all facing severe cut backs. I suppose we can just turn our electric completely off and go back to rubbing two sticks together.....:surprise: Well guess we have to just tighten up a little more. Its getting so you can't even afford to buy panties.Suppose I'll have to start making my own.

It was this thread, posted a week or so ago.
[ame="http://www.frugalvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81389"]Rising Grocery Prices? - Frugal Village Forums[/ame]
Something I learned from years of daytrading the stockmarket - don't doubt yourself when you see a trend. The trend is your friend. If you notice grocery prices are rising before the rest of the "herd" does, then you can benefit from it by stocking up or working out strategies to deal with it. You have time in your favour, and knowledge as well. Once this sort of thing hits the news, you can rest assured that everyone else will now know it, and also panic buying for certain goods will also occur, which again will ramp up the price.
