    Default The Frugal Birthday Challenge

My birthday tends to expand to encompass a weekend or at least it has since I was 16 years old. I cannot even count the amount of money that I have wasted simply on my birthday. I’m turning 21 on June First and I wish to do this as frugal as possible. I don’t want to spend any money. None. Zip, zilch. Nada. I am looking at this as sort of a challenge.

    So, I need your ideas.

If you can’t come up with anything at all… then figure about 10.00 for me and my partner.

If its just you and your SO - challenge him to entertain you frugally! LOL its fun to see what the men come up with (at least in my case).

    * plan a self guided tour walk of the downtown/historic area of your city or use one of the preplanned ones available from the city

    * pack a picnic and enjoy your QT at the park, beach etc

    * watch home movies and laugh at yourself while sharing that side of you with him

    * make your own birthday video diary - or use your camera to document these memories (get your minds outta the gutter here ladies! )

    * go for a walk - window shop and only buy a fancy coffee when you're out

    * do a sport together - cycling, jogging, rollerblading

    * have him cook you a nice meal in at home

    * have him help you re-arranging your furniture and create a better 'vibe' to your place

I know some of these are a bit but they're fun and cheap or free!

It is to late for your birthday but I thought of some free dates. Most of them focus on just being together and is that not the point of a date.

Visit your local public gardens in the spring when everything is blooming.

Hike a beautiful trail and have a picnic.

Take a scenic drive through a wooded area or country road and talk

Check with your local museum for days when admission is free. Even if you pay, it's still a relative bargain for an all day date.

Enjoy free live music, share a cup of coffee, and browse new titles at your local bookstore.

Book stores often host author discussions and book signings.

If you live near a college campus, you'll have additional possibilities in lectures and movie screenings.

Check with your local arts council for gallery openings and art shows. If you can avoid the temptation to come home with a painting or sculpture, you can enjoy a free evening of art, refreshments, and intelligent conversation with your date.

The Parks and Recreation department may also offer opportunities like an outdoor concert series or theater performance.
