Its ok!! Its 'almost' June and its not like you're going to have it on 24/7 until the end of summer from today. Just remember the summer basics, open windows at night and close in am to trap the cool air inside and keep the blinds drawn to keep the sun out etc.

    You can do it!

I'm almost there myself although I generally have a long-standing rule that the ac doesn't come on until June. But we had day 3, in a row, of 90 temps. They are supposed to last the week, but so far the humidity hasn't been bad. We are to the point the kids are running around with little to no clothing, but it doesn't seem to bother them.

DH is starting to give me looks and telling me that we need to try the AC before we really need it. Last year when we went to turn it on we found out we had a board that had gone bad and it took us another 3 weeks to get a new one and dh install it.

We turned ours on too It was so hot and muggy, we couldnt take it but we only run it for a few hours here and there and then off for the entire night since we have the ceiling fans going and it's cooler at night.

One year, I turned on the ac on Fridays when I got home from work and turned it off Monday a.m. when I left for work. I psyched myself by telling myself that I grew up without a/c, so what's the big deal? I did that all summer. I did it in Louisiana too. My biggest worry was mold/mildew and the humidity.

We turned ours on about 2 weeks ago. I wish we could have held out too, but the humidity was unbearable.

Coming from Cleveland, the temps down here seem downright unbearable. I hated to do it, but dh turned the A/C on quite some time ago. If it gets cool enough I turn it off and open the windows, but it doesn't even seem to cool down at night here. It may be my pregnancy hormones, I don't know. It just seems so hot. I run it at 75 and if it's only in the seventies out, I'll open the windows. Anything over eighty and I just can't even breathe. I know I'm going to cringe when I see our next bill. Our last one was only $100 for both electric and gas.

Its been in the 80's here so no a/c YET. It was humid yesterday but dh, I and animals lounge around on the front porch which had already cooled down since it faces east. Needless to say with just the two of us in the house we had very little on. me in unders and t-top and dh in a kilt. if we had children at home that would have been another story.

I was reading somewhere. Can't remember where. That someone had taken a block of ice and sat it in front of a fan to cool rooms down. I have 2 liter bottles frozen in one of my freezers and I was thinking that maybe I could use the frozen ice in the bottles and place in front of the fan and when it melted inside the bottle put it back in the freezer and get another one out. Just wondering if this would give the same affect?

We are hoping to make it til June. Our electric bill was around $75 thur May 10th. It had finally dropped after months of being over $100 even with a milder winter. So, we a trying to keep the A/C off as long as possible. It hasn't been so bad, but this week looks .

We have had ours on for a couple of weeks now. The house we rent has no natural shade around it, and none of the windows have screens. I won't buy screens because I rent, landlord doesn't feel they are a needed item on the house, I won't open windows without screens cause I am not gonna open the house up to all kinds of bugs.

I am trying the frozen water bottle and fan as we speak. I sat the bottle in a pan in the floor and have a floor fan blowing on it. I had to put socks on my feet. My legs are also cold. I am in my kitchen which faces west and I must say that it is alot cooler in here than the rest of the house. The bottle after 3 hours still has a huge chunk of ice in it and of course the water is still very cold because of the ice. So gonna sit here and wait to see when the temperature goes up in the room, if it does before the sun goes down.

You live in Carolina and the landlord won't spring for screens??? Wow...what a dork!! Is there anyway you could buy something used and sell it when you leave? ...maybe to the next tenants? That's just awful!!!

We use a window a/c unit at night. Neither of us can sleep if we're too hot.
