Default Yeow at the grocery store!

    I was out of everything.

Yesterday I spent almost $300 and still needed fruits and veggies.!

Went back today--$94 bucks(they had chicken on sale and I got some lean ground beef)!

I never spend this kind of money on groceries--ever--but we were down to zero food here.

My dhs dad died 2 weeks ago and dhs whole check went on getting his dd from Kansas to Texas and getting everyone clothed for a funeral and family viewing.....so I didn't shop.

Oh well, all living things must eat and my dh has high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and a salt problem.

Cheap convience foods are NOT ever on the menu. He was diagosed at the beginning of the year. I look forward to his next drs visit to see how the new diet is helping him(and us too).

Good luck Crickett with your dh's health. My dh at this moment is getting ready for work(he works nights) and he is scrambling around in the kitchen looking for snacks to put in his lunch. Do believe that he will have to settle on animal crackers that I bought big bags of for 1.00 a while back. Nothing else here not even any chips. I know what you mean about being down low and having to spend so much at once. However it will probably last you a while but its just the sticker shock.

Oh boy I understand your wallet pain. DH and I just started eating more meatless meals and buying organic meat. We live in expensive bay area california with no double coupon stores or anything as it is, so this is a bit of an expensive change for us but its something we've been wanting to do for health reasons. Fruits and veggies are expensive here even in season and the farmer's market is just as expensive.

ouch! I would cry if I had to spend that much. Im greatful we have a garden and my parents have citrus trees. We also have a produce stand that is very reasonable.

Cricketlegs, I know that it was a shock to have to spend that much money on groceries, but I am sure that you will frugally stretch the meals that you prepare with the food you just bought. Yes, it is harder when you have to buy certain items that may cost more for health reasons, but our families are worth it.

Yikes!! Prices sure are going up!!

I think I am fixing to have to go a big shopping trip too! I haven't really been to the grocery store to stock up in a long time and I am dreading it.

We haven't had any navel oranges this year. The lowest I have seen them was $1 for an orange. Feeding 6 people we can't afford that much for an orange. I am thinking I will have to price orange groves in florida and have a case shipped to us when they are in season again.

I would LOVE to be able to get fruit that cheap!!

Oranges are about $2.89/lb right now...oranges seem to run 2 or 3 per pound depending on the size...yeah, spendy. Apples are all over $2/lb...some over $3/lb. Carrots even went from 99c/lb to 1.19/lb.

Bananas are about the only thing we get very often...at 79c/lb we don't feel the "produce pinch" too bad. And they're usually decent. A lot of the produce up here is baaaaaaad. The onions have been bad lately...does anyone know what's up with that? Usually it's not a problem to get good ones up here???

I feel very fortunate to have Flea Markets close; I try and buy all fruits and veggies at the Fleas. Everything is getting so expensive. I'm also fortunate to have Tangelo and Naval trees in my yard and the neighbors have mango. grapefruit and lemon trees so we are good on the citrus around here.

Yep, the sticker shock is a punch!

I bet that was a shock to the pocketbook but like you said, a body has to eat. On the bright side, you are all stocked up again and on your way to building a new stockpile.
