Sim card for cell phone in States
Hi,
I'm travelling to Florida this summer and am trying to figure out the best way to get a sim card once I arrive. I have a tri-band cell phone but want a chip or sim card to use there. I'm looking for what we call pay-as-you-go here in the uk, basically to pay for the sim card and then load up call time in advance using your credit card.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I've moved from the U.S. a little over a year ago so I might not be the best source of information but as far as I know they don't sell sim cards alone there like they do in the rest of the world. Your best option would be to buy a prepaid cell-phone with the cell phone. (I have no idea how costly that is, I had a t-mobile contract.)
As I said, I very well could be wrong and things could have changed. But if not, then maybe the ladies could help by providing details of pre-paid cellphone 'offers' from various companies.
Oh, and hi everyone, longtime lurker here!

You could get a Trac-fone, which is a prepaid phone. The phone itself is pretty inexpensive; I got one for my Dad for $15. It's a plain-Jane stick phone, but it works! You can also buy minutes at the same time; I bought minutes for Dad but I can't remember what it cost now. You just need access to a phone or internet in order to activate the trac phone.

Thanks ladies - I knew I could count on you!
I've been told that the best place to buy one of these phones is Wal-mart.
Thanks,
Simone

I bought my phone in Germany, and when I moved back to the States, I just went to the Cingular shop and got a SIM card for my phone... pre paid. No phone to buy, and it was pretty much hassle free. I dont know if any other companies do it... but I know that Cingular does!
*I moved November of 2006, so this was pretty recent.
