Grocery Bills Taking a Bigger Bite
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...IZ01/706130415
Grocery bills are up 3.9 percent from a year ago, easily outpacing the 2.6 percent inflation rate, Paul LaPorte, economist for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, said this week.
So far this year, consumers are paying more for steak (up 7 percent) and potatoes (up 5 percent), not to mention tomatoes (6 percent), potato chips (4 percent), seedless grapes (17 percent), a loaf of bread (10 percent) and oranges (17 percent), according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Interesting. It's only a matter of time before that happens here in Canada. I'm going to have to check the grocery receipts with DH comes back from the next trip to the store and see what they say.
This is one reason I'm anxious to get back in my kitchen cooking. I have a feeling after 2 weeks there's some stuff in the fridge about to go green and die. I hate to waste something as expensive as food.2012 Challenges

That one has been posted before. Very interesting how developed countries seem to spend so much money on soda, fast food, & convenience food.

That can't be just for one week, can it? Some of those family had like 8 two liters, tons of juice and cases of beer and pop. I wonder what it would look like if some of us posted a picture of our next shopping trip?

Very interesting article. I would've blamed the rise in corn prices entirely on using it for fuel now.
Good find!

Good grief all that junk food. I have some vanilla wafers, store bought and peanut butter cookies that we baked, in our house. We have in freezer candy bars for dh's lunch for 33 cents a piece instead of buying in vending machine. Diet soda, the reason for this is my asthma medication gives me such bad indigestion that I keep this to break it up. Tried lots of things but that seems to do the trick. That's all the junk food we have here. Once every other week I bake a cake. If its eaten in one week OH well...And very little prepackaged anything, do have stuff for unexpected company. No wonder some of their bills were so high and all the preservatives in all that stuff. Makes my arteries groan just looking at the pictures....

You know what I noticed...the amount of vegetables the selected families had. Only a few of them really had an adequate amount of vegetables, and they were from the undeveloped countries... I'm assuming it's because meat is scarce and expensive. But it makes for a healthier diet than pops, beer and chips! Interesting.
