    Thumbs down Retail Trickery

JCPenney must think I'm stupid! I received an offer "40% off all regular-priced apparel, shoes & accessories" from their spring & summer catalog. There are a few things I buy from Penney's on a regular basis... (the Cabin Creek jeans with the elastic waistband are the only things that fit me nice and make me feel a little slimmer ). I made a list of these & a couple of other things we need, like underwear for my husband & NB sneakers for me (things I can't get cheaper or 2nd hand).

Guess what? Not one single thing on my list is currently "regular priced"!!! Everything is marked on the website as "now on sale" and I did the math, the sale prices are about 20% off. Big difference from 40% that they lured me with!

I didn't take the bait. I needed about $100 worth of stuff. I'll do without for a while, send that $100 to pay down a bill, and probably find the NB sneakers for cheaper anyway.

I absolutely know what you mean and things like that really make me mad!

I hate deception of any type by stores and another good one some stores try to pull is to put the wrong product under a sale price [where the on sale item should be] and then you automatically think that's the item on sale, until you're checking out and see you've been charged way more than the sign said. Grrrrrrrrrrr!

It's something I have to watch a lot shopping at JoAnn's Fabrics. If I'm careful I can get some really good deals. I try to just keep a running list of what I need for various craft projects (used for gift making about 90% of the time). And then wait until the item goes off sale to buy it with the coupon (which works great for JoAnn's because their coupons are good for so long...don't think it'd work with JCP?).

Inevitably...just shopping clearance seems to always be the best bet, though.

    Good job keepin' frugal!

They do it all the time. Send you those coupons and tell you its not good on clearence and then they put the entire store on sale. Ticks me off .

Marianne, you are one smart shopper! I hate advertisements like that. They get you in the stores and then you find out the sales price isn't actually that great!

I hate it when stores do a "twofer", but in order to get the price, you HAVE to buy two! Otherwise, it's regular price for one. That's one thing I like about the grocery store where I work, because they don't do that. Walgreen's does. I think it's deceptive.
