    Default Swiffer wet jet

Does anyone own a swiffer wet jet? I love mine cuz it's quick. The thing I don't like is buying refill bottles... mine only last me a few cleanings. Plus the pads are expensive. So.... I ran out of the liquid and couldn't get to a store - really wanted to get floor cleaned without mop (it's a lot easier to use when little one is napping)...
I cut a very small rectangle in top but left one side. I filled with water, about 2-3 tbsp of vinegar and a few drops of dish detergent to make it smell better. I pushed down the little rectangle and it worked great. Just as good as the real stuff... so I am not buying it anymore. Now.. to replace the pads... I have some cloth baby diapers that we had bought for some reason and I'm going to safety pin one of those on. I have to go get safety pins first.. lol. Can you believe I don't have even one in my house!! So, as soon as I get somewhere to get those I will try that out and hopefully it works.

I have one and it okay for quick cleanups, but I didn't feel like it got my floor really clean. I refilled mine with a tiny bit of pine sol and water and use wash clothes on the head. It works great! I use it mostly in the bathrooms for middle of the week touch ups.

The top of the bottle comes off quite easily with a pair of vice grips or plyers. I use a washable magic blue mop head instead of the pads - it does a much better job - although I have used a terrycloth rag in a pinch.

I've never bought a refill bottle or a replacement pad.

I love mine, but I always buy the refills and pads. I think I may try something different for the pads because it seems like I am always buying them.

I love mine, too... and I do buy the refills and pads. We have hardwood flooring in the entry and in one bathroom, and I love that I can use one thing on those floors and then keep going right into the kitchen with the same cleaner. We use the same pad until it looks dirty & then toss it-- sometimes one pad will last through 2-3 cleanings.

Thanks for the reviews - I am moving into a much bigger house next month that has both hardwood floors and ceramic tile throughout the main floor - I would really rather use something like this than a mop & bucket.

I also want to get a small vacuum - the main floor has just one room with carpet - any reviews on small vac? Maybe something like the shark stick or something like that?

    Thanks in advance

My MIL gave me a Swiffer WetJet because she loves hers so much. I'm not impressed. I don't think it does a very good job, and it's expensive to buy the solution and cleaning pads.

I much prefer my Sh-Mop from The Clean Team. It's fantastic, and the mop covers are all machine washable. I think I paid about $32 for it 7 years ago. Haven't had to buy replacements for it yet!

I am with ewokgirl I like my sh-mop. I got it when I had my hardwood installed. Paid $20 for it and it came with 2 terry cloth heads. Just mop and throw in the laundry. I do not use any cleaners on the floors as the installer told me it is not the best thing for wood floors. So I just wet the sh-mop and go. I do spot clean the bad spots first with a little elbow grease.

I also have one & I like it a lot I also buy the refills since the kitchen, laundryroom & bathroom are so small they last me & whenever I need to buy refills I always get coupons for $1/1 which helps some. It would be nice to use a liquid that smells better then their liquid does.

I have one and love it though the disposable pads are not environmental friendly. I usually just put a microfiber towel (sticks to the "velcro" on the bottom) and use that but I do have the disposable pads too just to make cleaning easier on those crazy days.

I had a wet jet but I didn't care for it. I use Orange Glow on my hardwood floors with the terry pad and mop that came with the kit and love it. DH bought 3 extra pads, and I like the idea of being able to wash them. Oh, we have tile only in the two bathrooms, and I use one of the pads just to clean those floors using pine oil. I just can't stand using ordinary wringer mops anymore.

FYI: You can cut through the plastic cap just at the base of it and it will twist on and off. That's what I did with mine. I used a hack-saw, but someone strong enough could probably do it with a good sharp knife ( wouldn't let me use his cooking knives ).

I have a Mr. Clean bottle that I filled with half cleaner and half water. I just spray that on my floor, then go behind and mop with the wet jet.
Works for me and I dont' ahve to buy replacement bottles.

I got mine for "free" from the dumpster. I actually bought washable pads off of eBay from a WAHM who makes a lot of cloth cleaning products - I like that they velcro in the right places. I really don't think it does a good job - it doesn't do corners well or get crusted food off the kitchen floor as good as my regular mop. I do use it a few times a week to keep the floor under control, but I get out the old mop and bucket when I want to wash the floor.

I had been buying refills, but now I'll try making my own! Thanks for the tip!

Hrm....when my sister moved home a while back she had a Swiffer floor duster one - the original? And since helping her move into her new house she left one in her old apt for the next people. The though of the wet Swiffer doesnt seem to do it for me but I've seen several tips here that I may try. I only have linoleum on my basement floor and its a tiny patch. That and my tiny bathroom has ceramic tile. In the bathroom I used to just get on my hands and knees and use Lysol Wipes but am now thinking about using Bounty towels OR even better yet a dollar store microfibre cloth thats wet with diluted Mr Clean. Wash and let dry.

Thanks for the tips ladies! I just may have to add that to my list of 'to do's' for today

Have you thought about just using a mixture of water and vinegar in a spray bottle and 'pre-treating' that 'spot' of crusted stuff before you went over it with the Swiffer? Just a thought.
