    Exclamation Milk Prices, again

Milk Prices Could Soar to $5 a Gallon by Summer's End

The national average price for the calcium-rich drink that "does a body good" could hit a record $5 a gallon by September, MarketWatch reported Tuesday. The current average price is about $3.50 a gallon nationally, say dairy experts. That's more than the current national average gas price, which is $2.975 a gallon, according to AAA.

The cheapest milk I can find here (Wal-Mart brand) is already $4 a gallon. I hate to see the price rise even more.

I noticed this the other day... The Safeway store that is near my house went from advertising a non-organic gallon of milk, for $1.98 on a huge sandwich board in the dairy dept., to quietly changing the prices tag on the milk to say "2 for $5.00" That is a $.52 increase!!!! Overnight!!!! Sheesh!

I bought milk for $2.09 a gallon at Krogers today. I know this is not going to last. I use a lot of milk to cook with...dry milk may be coming to home. I bet that will go up a ton too.

    It is 4.39 here.

Fortunately I have 3 gallons in the fridge and 3 coupons for more free milk. Kroger had a deal last week, buy 3 boxes of cereal and get a free gallon of milk. The cereal was 3/$5 and I had 1.50 coupons. I got free milk instantly at the register and then the coupon machine printed me ANOTHER free milk coupon! So for 3.50 I got 3 boxes of cereal and 2 gallons of milk.

We don't really drink a lot to begin with. I buy whole milk and dilute it so it lasts a bit longer. We just use it mostly on our cereal, for cooking and in my coffee.

It's 3.79 at one store and 2/$7 at the other... I hope that article isn't true.

I'm so glad we have a ton of milk in our freezer right now! All free from the aforementioned cereal deal when my store was having 10/$10 cereal that qualified! I still have 3 free milk coupons! I gave a man my 4th coupon today bc he was having all sorts of problems with some raincheck and I was able to cure a lot of frustration on the part of the man AND the employees by offering it up! hehe

Eleni loves milk and used to drink alot of it everyday. I've made her cut down to 2 8oz. glasses a day. Now, she thinks that I should cut down on my Diet Pepsi:surprise:. We drink alot of water during the day, and some koolaide.

I heard that milk prices are expected to go up this summer. Right now, the price of milk is around $2.29, so it's not too bad. Probably a good idea to stock up..

We don't buy regular milk, only powdered. We did some grocery shopping tonight and the powdered milk we buy went up from $4.68 to $5.88 a box. It is still cheaper for us to go with powdered milk though.

This is really bad news around here. Both of my boys are huge milk drinkers.

You can freeze regular gallons of milk? Why didn't anybody ever tell me that? I've wasted 'great buys' by not freezing.... grrrr....
