Smile What Frugal Thing Did You Do Today?

I always find myself thinking or planning things with the thought in the back of my mind..."how can I do this more frugally?" or "how can i save on this"

What did you do today that you think is frugal?

-I am having a get together with my girlfriends and our children at my house tonight. Usually I supply most of food and drinks which I go to store to make special trip for.($$$$!!)
Today I made a big batch of spaghetti and got a loaf of italian bread in freezer I took out and will make garlic bread to go along with for dinner. Throw in some vegetables I have leftover from week (not yet cooked just left in veggie drawer) and make a buttered side dish. Voila!! Dinner...and dessert I made muffins and had a few bagels left I cut up into bite size pieces and made a little dish of cream cheese mixed w a squirt of "hersheys chocolate". Yummy!

Dh came home for lunch and we all had left overs. The kids and I walked to the convenience store near our hose to pick up a paper because today is ad day for the grocery stores. The kids and I then went to the store that had the best ad and purchased a bunch of 'loss leaders' from the ad that we needed. I got 3 free 12 pks. of soda (to bring with us to a bbq tomorrow) and 2 free packs of hotdogs (to come with us tomorrow too!)

-I only ate food from home today
-I made my own soy "latte" this afternoon (by microwaving some soy milk and adding espresso I made with my $5 old-fashioned stove-top espresso maker)

Also, today was the first day of STAT 502, my second summer session class. We were finally told that yes, we DO need a textbook for this course, and no, it's NOT the same one we used for STAT 501. It lists on Amazon for $147, but I found it used at Abebooks for $65. Sixty-five dollars for a book is hardly frugal, but it's required and textbooks, especially statistics textbooks, are just like that. At least I didn't spring for a new copy and blow an extra $80.

I resisted going into a pottery store where I was planning on buying a piece. Yeah!!! I figured it could wait until the end of the month (if I have money left).

    Ate at home today.

Didn't rent a movie for tonight.

I paid the bills that are due early in the month and will dun for a late fee if not paid by xx/xx/xx. I also did laundry in h.m. laundry soap. I sent out 2 sympathy cards that I had on hand from the dollar store instead of buying more expensive ones here. I sent my leftover empanadas from On the Border yesterday + a dessert to Dad. He'll really enjoy it all, it didn't go to waste both of which make me happy.

Took some "free" coupons to Walmart. Got 4 boxes of hamburger helper (2 50% more ones and 2 double ones), 1 3pk yeast, and 2 2L Sierra Mist (one was diet).

Not free, but cheap - got 4 16ct Kool Aid pkts (to add to water) for .98 each. Were on sale for $1.98 and I had a $1 coupon.

Well I did laundry and hung it out to dry. Was dry, breezy weather, so it dried quickly! Took my recyclables to the local bins down the road (creating less waste). I was tempted to go downtown and window shop....but knew I might be weak,so I have been on my deck, reading one of my library books ( suggested reading from one of the FV'ers) and later popping in a DVD from the library as well.

I have family visiting tomorrow thru this weekend, and we will be taking the kids to some places & dining out. So will using my fun $$ stashed away for these occasions. Did bake some banana bread and brownies today & have a cooler for the car when we all hit the road. Figure we can save some money by not eating all our meals out. Not 100% frugal, but I have the cash saved at least.

I washed two loads of laundry on cold and hung them to dry. The air conditioning is off, even though I'd really like to turn it on. And I didn't place the Old Navy order that had ready to go. Online shopping is my weakness...

I had to go in to work today for a bit, so Gypsy and I walked there (we are closed, so she can go in).

Today is the first day I have turned the AC on in over a month!

I haven't done anything today, but yesterday was good.

We went to the movies, not usually so frugal, but went to the first showing and it was only $5/ticket. Popcorn wasn't such a good deal, but gotta have that movie popcorn.

I was going to cook ribs, but got a call from mil and she was bbqing, so we went down there. I whipped up a broccoli/cauliflower salad to take. So I still have my ribs for today's dinner.

Then got some fun entertainment. It began to rain while we were there and we were outside under their big tent type thing. they have an extra tarp attached at one end. The rain was building up on the tarp, so dh and his dad were letting it build up and then letting it run off into a 5 gallon cooler. They were trying to see if they could fill it on one dump. It was funny watching these two. I think it rained for about an hour. We walked over, so we didn't go home until it stopped. DH had to run home to put the windows up on the car and then came back on ds's scooter.

Then we went to a free fireworks show.

    It was a great day.
