    Default Carpet Cleaning

So we just moved into a new apartment. We where told and even seen them cleaning the carpets when we came and looked at the place. But this place STINKS... We are pretty sure its the carpets cause everything else has been washed down by myself.

So the question is, I have a carpet cleaner BUT am cheap and don't want to spend money on carpet cleaner. So does anyone know what I can use, that will remove the smell and also not damage my machine.

What about just baking soda and water?

I have even used oxyclean in my carpet cleaner (make a liquid mix) without any problems.

    Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Try white vinegar..in your soap dispenser.. then rinse with plain water.
It wont take long for the vinegar smell to go away.

Ew. Do you know if the previous renters were smokers? Because it's super hard to get that smell out. I would try the vinegar, that seems to work on bad smells.

Borax (as in 20 Mule Team) sprinkled on and left to sit for an hour or two (or more if you can) takes out a lot of odors. Club Soda is an excellent stain remover (got that one from a friend who had a very exclusive carpet service).

The vinegar smell doesn't not always go away. I used it in my carper cleaner once and I can still smell it. It's not terrible, but it's still there. I've used a tiny bit of laundry detergent in mine and I had good results.

I've used OxyClean in the steam cleaner before, and it worked very well.

Oxyclean and really hot water in the machine, give that a shot.

Are you shampooing it, or is the carpet already clean, but just smells bad? If it just smells, I'd just use some Febreeze on it.
