    Default I cannot believe this!

I went to Wal Mart to buy powdered milk last night. WOW! Carnation was $8.34 for a box that made 2 gallons. That's a few pennies cheaper than milk! I bought the Wal-Mart brand, but it was $5.81 for the two gallon size. That's still almost $3 a gallon!

Looks like Wal-Mart isn't above taking advantage of people trying to save a few pennies on milk.

Anyone know what the price is at Sav-A-Lot?

I don't know about Wal Marts powdered milk, but their price on cottage cheese has been going up steadily for 6 months. I started buying it there because it was the cheapest I could find. $2 for a 24 oz carton. I went last week and the price was up to $2.74!! I can get it cheaper at Aldi, but I'm really picky about my cottage cheese...lol...and I just don't like the taste and texture of theirs.

I've found that most powdered milk is still expensive! What I've done, is cut down dd's consumption of milk to 3 glasses per day. That has saved alot!

I dont find that powdered milk is any big savings. The price of powdered milk at the local Market Basket supermarket is 3.99 for a box that makes 1 gallon plus 1 quart.

DH and I don't drink very much milk, so I usually only buy 1/2 gallon at a time..but I did buy some cottage cheese at Aldi's the other day and it was $2.19, which I thought was high...sometimes I can get the 16oz carton at Kroger for $1. Prices on milk products and Orange juice are ridiculous!!

I buy the Sanalac brand at the commissary. It makes 5 gallons and costs just under $5. I should buy it full time, but I'm too lazy

Powdered milk is more expensive than liquid where I live. We don't use it for anything but to make my yogurt. Liquid is $3.48/4 litres (roughly 1 gall). Powdered is $25 for enough to make 24 litres.

I buy bulk powdered milk, but I'm almost out. Since it's been more than a year sounds like I'm in for sticker shock! I don't drink milk generally but use it for all my backing, soups etc.

We use powdered milk almost exclusively (besides the whole milk I buy for DS) b/c it's easier on my tummy. I noticed a big jump this past year in the price, particularly at walmart - the big boxes used to be at least a few dollars cheaper. At aldi, it's $10 for the big box (5 gallons), so it's still a good bit less than the jugs. At aldi, the whole milk is almost $4/gallon now, and just last month, it was like $3.19. Argh...

As milk has gone up, it was only time until powdered followed.

Peanut, check out the Our compliments from Sobeys. I saw it was 9.99 per KG, and the Superstore was $25 for 2 KG. I'm going to try for 10% tuesday and see.

Also, you can use less than the 1 cup. I had called at one point to find out what weight to use, as sometimes it's fine powder or larger crystals. If it's really fine I use 3/4 cup.

Sold be weight, not volume, but prepared by volume, doesn't make sense..lol

I have gone to buying half a gallon of whole and adding enough water to it make a gallon. My usual cost is about 2.40 a gallon if I do it that way , but I only do it when I can find it on sale anywhere for 2.49 a gallon.

It was over 6 bucks at my walmart, NO WAY! I wont buy it at walmart unless its life or death.

We have been buying powdered milk for years now. It has always been $4.88 at Wal-Mart until about 6 weeks ago. It had gone up to the $7 range and then about two weeks ago it was up in the $8 range. Because of the amount we make from it, it is still much cheaper than "regular" milk.
