Default Just a little rant about the price of milk

The supermarket where I do most of my grocery shopping has raised the price of milk AGAIN.
About 1 month ago, the price was around $ 1.35 per 2 liters (about 1/2 gallon) - now it has gone up for the second time and is now $1.54 for the same 2 liters.
We were warned about price rises for just about everything - I'd better get used to it, I guess.

Yeah, here prices are about $2-$2.50 for a half gallon, and $4.50 for a full gallon. My husband said we are going to switch to drinking gasoline instead, it's cheaper!!

Watch the price per ounce... oftentimes it is cheaper to get two half gallons, than one full.

In the U.S., prices are set by the Diary Board, not the stores. Our store is selling whole milk for $3.99 a gallon, and they are actually just breaking even. We did it as a service to our customers with kids, to save them a little bit of money.

So don't blame your supermarket, if you live in the U.S. at least.

    So true!

I got quite a shock last night when I was on the Walton Feed website planning an order. A month ago, I did a quick run-down on their current prices and saw that a 25lb bag or hard white wheat had jumped in price to $8.10. I thought that was a huge jump from the $5+ I paid last year. Well, the price is now at $12.20 for that same bag of wheat!! I can't believe the price jumped $4.10 in one month!!!! Think of all the products that contain wheat...

Thankfully, I don't need to order wheat this time, but still... There are other price jumps on their products (but none so dramatic as the wheat). My order is looking a lot different today than it did just a month ago, and I'm trying to pin Hubby down to commit to a pick-up date so I can get my order in.

People can get along without Pop-Tarts and ice cream, but bread, milk, and eggs...? I don't think so. These prices have got to be effecting everyone to some degree.

I live with my DH and kids in the Netherlands and to be quite honest I don't know who decides on the prices for milk.
What I definitely know is that the government has announced higher taxes on packaging (which will affect just about anything) and our gasoline prices are through the roof. It is more than $9 per gallon.
Our healthcare insurance premium will have an increase of more than $400 per person per year.
It's unbelievable what they have announced that they are going to do and it's only going to get worse.
Sorry for being so negative but it just gets my goat about all these price rises.

Milk here in Boston in crazy. I've seen $4.79 a gallon for the grocery store brand! I don't dare look at the premium ones! We end up getting it at the 7-11, where it's $3.39. Not great, but not as bad.

Now don't get me started on the butter mark-ups...and cottage cheese...grrr!

And I thought $2.60/gallon for powdered milk was bad! I don't pay attention to regular milk prices, and I guess there's no need to right now...

I suppose we can put milk on the "no more" list like other foods that have risen out of sight in price. That mean the cold cereals that dd likes will also get axed. Goodbye cheerios and hello oatmeal and muffins, pancakes with juice for breakfast.

Hopefully the price of dairy goods will go down here in England as the OFT is looking into price fixing by the four main supermarkets, the farmers as always are getting paid a pittence for their milk, i decided today to use dried milk (made up of course lol) on my cereal in the morning and to cut down on the amount of butter i put on my toast at lunch time as non brand butter has gone up from 53p to 68p in one week
