Electric blankets
I have heard varying things about electric blankets, what's your take? Are they safe? Are they worth it? How much do they run?
Thanks!

I just bought one at Walmart two weeks ago for 29.99.
I have to say it's one of the best things I've ever got for myself.
My cat LOVES it too....
I also want to know if it will cost me much on the electricity, and I usually turned it on to 2 out of heating scale from 1 to 10 before I went to bed...

We have two of them and paid around $30 each. We also have a heated mattress pad with dual controls that we paid about $40 for it on sale and with a 20% off coupon. All three of our items have safety controls and cut themselves off after 10 hours. I have always slept with an electric blanket and feel perfectly safe allowing my kids to sleep with them.
We all love both the blanket and the mattress pad, but personally I like the mattress pad better.

We have the dual heated mattress pad on our bed, the kids each have one on their beds. They are DIVINE!!! I LOVE it. I will never not have one again. The kitties also love it, we often end up with all three kitties piled in the bed with us. Why they don't sleep on the kids' heated mattresses I don't know.
Ours also has an automatic shut off and that makes me feel safer.

I just purchased a Sunbeam brand mattress heating pad at Costco. It shuts off automatically and has the dual control, excellent because my husband shuts his off, and I keep mine on the lowest setting. I actually fall asleep much faster, like a baby! It's warm, but not hot. I'm hooked!

I love mine! I too worry about the safety concern concerning my children so they do not have one. I want someone to convince me to put them on their beds because it makes it so cozy.

I actually was electrocuted by one about 15 years ago. Not too sure of the safety standards these days. But I am terrified of them--LOL

Just bought one for my daughter for Christmas. It's a Sunbeam, Queen size for $40.00. Her bedroom in her apartment is cold and she's a freeze baby. This was on her very short list this year. Only other thing she wanted was a wok and I got her a Calphalon wok with a lid that can also go in the oven. It was only $12.99.

great deal on that Calphalon wok! I used to work at Calphalon and I know how expensive they are.
Hmmm, you all have me thinking about getting one for sure now. Maybe I will wait until after christmas to see if I can get one on sale? We have a king size bed.

No, I won't use them. About 15 years ago, a child on my husband's baseball team escaped certain death when the cord on his electric blanket malfunctioned and sparked a fire. Fortunately he and his family of 6 others were not burned or injured, but the fire destroyed two upstairs bedrooms.

I had one years ago. The bedroom was freezing. It worked great but I was always worried about a fire. Have down comforters now and really love them. So do my cats! One is always under the covers.

I dislike them, saw malfunction.I pile the beds with cozy, warm quilts.

I love electric blankets, I've owned a few of them but my experience has been that they only last 2-3 years before they die and they are expensive when you have to buy one for a cal-king size bed. I've found that a queen size fits nicely on a cal-king actually.
