Default the $8 that stretched forever

I have found that there is a warehouse in my area that will help with groceries - there is no certain income bracket that I must fit within (much like angel food) - for those that do qualify, they can recieve a free food box weekly -

** these items are the major store rejects: smushed boxes, dented cans, broken boxes, etc. I checked the exp date on everything - every item in my bag is well within it's exp date.

for $8, I get 2 paper grocery bags (the rule is, you have to make it all fit inside the bags) - this week I fit the following into my bags:

1- 6 pk of minute maid apple juice (lunch box size)
    1- 16 oz. linguine noodles
4 - cans of snapple "juiced" ((giving these to my MIL))
    1 - 14 oz. frenchs mustard
    2 - 18 oz. cans of campbell's chunky soup
1 - avon earring/necklace set (little cross) ((giving these to a niece))
1 - 14 ct. huggies disposable washcloths (lavendar scent)
4 - beech nut stage 2 mac n' cheese baby food (exp 8/09) ((got this for a friend))
3 - hersheys syrup dark chocolate envelopes (can use for baking)
1 - box of kleenex (didn't have to fit into the bag)
1 - roll of paper towels
1 - 21 oz box of capn' crunch ceral
    4 - 4 oz cheese pizzas (frozen)
4 - 12 oz cans of root beer
1 - 7 oz neutrogena mens shave gel
1 - 10 pk paper mate black pens
1 - 6 pk motts apple sauce (scobby doo series)
1 - 1.5 oz ivy dry medicated scrub (for poison ivy)
    1 - 6 pk reese's peanut butter eggs
    1 bag of pretzels
    1 bag of blk beans
5 - snack size bags of cheetos
4 - snack size bags of animal cookies
4 - snack size bags of quaker granola bites
1 - 5 oz pack of nutter butter cookies
2 - 3 pk vanilla scenter car air fresheners (those little trees on a string)

I was amazed at how much this could help!! I will continue to use this in the upcoming year and I hope it can help stretch my grocery budget further! ((but I will give above the $8 min. ))

If interested, I'll keep you updated each week with a detailed "$8 list" - it's simply amazing!

I always wondered where the smushed kleenex boxes went when they died!

That's quite a haul. This sounds like a really good program. I'll be interested to see what you get next time.

no, I believe this one is a local program - but I think everyone should look around to see what they have locally that they may not have known about.

I wouldn't have known about this one, but they ran a small ad in the local paper -

Wow! I can't believe what you got for $8. That's amazing. Yes keep us updated. We have a program but its for people who are low income or elderly. I would gladly give $8 to do what you do.

That is amazing! I have a friend in upstate New York that is able to get a basket of food once a month from something similar for $16. How great that there are places that allow these things to be used instaed of thrown away.

I am going to see if there is anything like this in my area!

You never know until you look ~ and even if you think such things are always income based, it never hurts to ask!

I can't imagine just anyone being able to take advantage of that! Aren't there income requirements?
